So, I had 17" rims on my G originally. Then I went to 18" VOLKs, and later upgraded to 19" (19x8.5 and 19x9.5). And, along the i'm-parting-out lines, last night I bought a set of OEM 18" 10-spoke rims for 05-06 sedans. Found an awesome deal on craigslist, talked them down even more, ended up with the wheels in perfect shape with brand-new tires for $740.
Slapped them on my car last night (myself, in a garage, major pain in the a$$). Drove the car a little bit last night and was very surprised with how much smoother the ride was. Now, mind you, these tires are pretty sh1tty Bridgestone Turanza, and it's very easy to break the rear tires loose - which was almost impossible with 9.5" wide Michelin Pilot Sports. But - the road noise decreased dramatically, and I was no longer jolted in my seat every time I drove over a pebble.
Now, this morning on my way to work, I immediately noticed how much smoother the car drove on the highway. Going over highway bumps was a lot less of an obtrusive experience. The road noise dropped a LOT - I used to have to set my volume to 17-18 while going 80mph, now I can comfortably set it to 13, and hear just as well!!!
The road feel dropped a little, though - taking corners feels a little different, as these tires are not as sticky as my Michelins. But - so far, very happy with the change.
