TPMS Light and After-Market Wheels

When I replaced my OEM 19's with Axis Matrix 19's, everything was good. But, a few days later, my TPMS light came on. It comes on for a minute blinking then stays on after a minute has passed. I checked the manual and a blinking TPMS light means there is a malfunction with the sensors. Thing is, I dont have the sensors anymore. I removed them when I got my new wheels. I scheduled an appt. to take my car in on Monday morning to the dealer for them to look at it. They seemed unsure about what to do about the light.

My question, when you got aftermarket wheels and got rid of your TPMS's, did your light come on? If so, what did you do about it? Id rather not hand over my keys to the dealer for them to do something simple that maybe I can do myself. Any suggestions? Thanks

Did you reinstall the TPMS on your new rims? If not you are going to most likely want to do so but I'll let the dealer explain why. Most folks don't get rid of the senors....they reinstall them. Hope you still have your OEMs.

No, I didnt. They wouldnt fit. The dealer didnt seem to think it was a problem.

I already sold my OEM's and shipped em out to Florida.

Care to explain why?

If the light bothers you that much, get a used set of TPS and band them onto your aftermarket wheels. Look to spend $150-200 for used TPS and another $40-50 in banding supplies. Also factor in the cost of having your tires unmounted and remounted. Don't forget to include having your TPS reprogrammed for say $90. If the fixing the light is worth say $300+, do it. Otherwise, I'd live with the TPS dash light.

TPS DIY.

I don't have the TPM installed on my aftermarket wheels and not light yet (knock on wood). They have been on a couple of weeks so far.

when I installed my aftermarket wheels, U couldnt put the sensor either. Nothing showed for the first 2 weeks, but after that the little light came on and does the same exact thing you said, flashes and then just lighst up. Its nothing man, its just telling you to check tire pressure, but since its not there anymore there is nothing you can do. Its not a problem, trust me, youll be fine. It might even shut off once in a while.

There has to be some way the dealer can disable the light. Well see what happens on monday. Id rather not have to see it everytime I start my car, its annoying and I dont want to have to explain it.

As for getting a used set of sensors and putting em on, no thanks. No need, I know when my tire is low. Thanks for the link tho

Anyone else?

Your dealer can disable the system. They just have to change a setting in the BCM.

Service advisors are good at telling people that something can't be done if they think you want them to do it for free.
The local dealers here disable and enable the system twice a year for customers when they change out their snow tires for them.

Too bad there's no snow here in Socal. I guess I should call the dealer up and ask them about it again
