04 Coupe - Replace Tires w/OEM 18" rims

I've pretty much decided on the Goodyear GS-D3s and am trying to determine the proper size for the oem 18" rims. Anyone aware of problems / drawbacks with the electronic wizadry, handling or ride given the following sizes?

(F) 245/40YR 18
(R) 245/45YR 18

Thanks very much - Jim

Scootch - I would prefer to go stock, however the d3's don't appear to be available in 225/45-18 up front. The sizes above were recommended by a highly regarded moderator, i'm just making one last pass in the community before taking the $$ plunge!

I just put 245/40-18 on front and 255/45-18 on the rear in KDW-2..no problem with VDC better traction and less understeer

MP - How many miles on the new grips? I would think wider in front will generate less understeer. One more thought: What's "KDW-2"?

Thanks. Jim

Those sizes will work and fit just fine. The 245/40 is the same OD as a 225/45. As mentioned the understeer will be reduced, and you'll have more neutral handling. And, also as mentioned the 255/45/18 in back should also fit; I would NOT go wider than that though, on the stock wheel.

BTW, the KDW-2 has a different tread pattern that the original KDWs. Goodrich makes them. Personally, I'm a Dunlop Guy. I do have my daughter on KDWSs however on her Camaro, and she loves 'em.

what about 225/40/18"XL for the front (good year eage 1 gs-d3), will it effect any handling? Because Egale 1 gs-d3 doesn't have 225/45/18

Lou - Thanks very much for the additional info. I'll go with 245/40-18 (F) and 245/45-18 (R), which were initially recommended by Al503 on this forum. What Dunlops are you running?

I've got Dunlop SP Sport Maxx, prior to that I had SP9000s. BTW, I'm running Nismo wheels with 245/40/18 and 275/40/18.

Just under 1k miles on these bridgstones and I'm loving the combo! My drive to work is almost all mountian roads and I have noticed that the VDC is not kickin in like it did with the new Pilot Sports. I can still get it to drift a corner if I want to but it is a lot more sure footed now.
KDW-2 is the new KDW with a better tread pattern. I'll tell ya this for sure, the front tires in 225/45 would roll the edges in the tight twisties @45psi. the KDW's keep the tread fully planted with the 245 width in the front.

Thanks for the update MP. Your commute is quite different from mine: about 13 mi each way, 10 of which are Interstate although this morning I had a little skirmish with what looked like a new subie wrx (not sti).

It was all black, tinted windows, no huge hideous wing on the back, but it did have the new front fascia. I was merging onto the Interstate from the right 2 lanes into the middle of (3) lanes, traffic's moderately heavy rolling about 65, and the guy closes me out of the left-hand lane, which I had no intention of entering. I became a little annoyed w/boy racer, so I casually signaled right and in about 1/2 mi, put approximately 6-8 cars between us moving back into the middle. Things were fine for about 3-4 miles, traffic thinned, and as I panned my rearview, here he comes up the left hand lane under a full head of boost to set me straight. There's traffic right in front, all three lanes so I box him and we roll about 1 to 1.5 miles side by side at 50-55 mph. An opening presents itself and he gets all over it, blowing in front of me, which by this time I was just about to exit. It was quick and you could see the thing leap when the boost came on.

I don't do this too often, too many cars, safety issues, etc. It did make this morning's ride entertaining though!

G35C033-
Any update w/ the tires? I already replaced the rears w/ the 245/45/18 last week & have been having trouble w/ the VDC. Was thinking about replacing my fronts as well w/ the 245/40/18 (even though the OEM fronts still have some tread on them). Wanted to see if you had any issues w/ the VDC kicking in w/ the 245/40/18 (F) & 245/45/28 (R) Eagle F1 setup.
