pressure sensers

Will the tire pressure senser still works if I replace stock 18" to aftermarket 19"? Sorry I don't know much about this field so please don't kill me.

When I changed rims they just popped out the valve stems with the sensors and added to the new wheels.

Sorry to hijack- but I've got a similar question: how could I tell if a set of used wheels I purchased have the tire pressure sensors in them without removing a tire? Is there any way?

You can tell by the Valve Stems. I don't have pics, but can post tomorrow if no one beats me to it.

You may need a particular aftermarket wheel to accept the sensor. I didn't have that problem going to nismo wheels, so I can't say for sure.

Awesome- pics would be much appreciated. In the mean time I could always compare between my OEM 19's with tpms and the OEM 17's that are in question...

Here's what they look like

The collar nut is the obvious thing to look for. Little hole is for sensor and big hole if for valve stem. The stems can be cut off and the sensors banded to the wheel if needed.

Here's what it looks like seated in an aftermarket wheel.

Hope that helps.

So basically, from the outside of a tire-mounted wheel, just look for a really thick metal valve stem in place of the typical lesser rubber. Good call!

Pretty much, they're ugly compared to getting nice shiny valve stems and they don't resemble any kind of regular rubber stem.

very very helpful, but I just realized that the rims that I bought it from already came with those sensers from the original owner. Hee hee, but thanks for all the help.

If it came with sensors you'll need to go to a dealer so they can hook the consult up and reregister these new sensors. Without getting them reregistered you won't get tire pressure data and the alert may go off since it is looking for the old ones.

well, today the pressure sign came on but no alert. Any idea, this sign came on 1 week after the installation.

The system is not very reliable or resilient, they need to be reregistered with the Consult II for you to get a reading and not get an alert.
