Re: Eibach Pro Kit group buy???

I just got off the phone with Eibach. The pro-kit for the coupe will not be available for at least another 3 months. They told me they don't even have a prototype for the springs yet. I spoke to them on Wednesday, January 22. Lemme know if you find out otherwise.

Definitely interested. Anyone know how much the Eibach springs lower the car?

Re: Eibach Pro Kit group buy???

Couple of things regarding Eibach Pro-Kits.

I got them for my Integra from www.shox.com for waaay under msrp. Bilsteins as well. I paid $175 for the springs.

They were pretty easy to install since they were shorter than the stockers. They didn't require a spring compresser to put them on.

They lowered my car 1.3 inches, which is about average for Pro-kits across the board (some drop 1" some 1.5").

If you don't purchase and install an alignment kit, you will end up with so much negative camber that you will wear your tires unevenly. Handling will be greatly improved, provided you upgrade your struts to something that can handle the increased spring rates of the Eibachs.

To the poster who claimed they are of poor quality. Bull crap!!

No way. Top notch German engineering there, nothing less. Now, there are plenty of crap brand lowering springs that are poorly engineered. Not so for the Eibach.

They do improve the handling a great deal. However, combining ProKit with Bilstein struts is a big mistake if you plan on driving your car daily. Way too stiff. If you've ridden in a 3/4 ton pickup with no load in it, you get an idea of the ride quality. That combo was so stiff on my Integra that the windshield started cracking, and new rattles started popping up all over the place. Handling was awesome though.

If I were going to do it all over again, I would combine those springs with an adjustable strut, such as KYB AGX, or Koni.

6 months ago, I removed the Eibachs, and put the stock springs back on with the Bilsteins. Much better ride, and the handling is almost (not quite) as good. A good compromise for a daily driven car.

Energy suspension bushings for sway bars are a great improvement for little money, and easy to install as well. They improve steering response and turn in without affecting the ride quality at all.

Just my 2¢

Re: Eibach Pro Kit group buy???

I have been speaking to Eibach consistently for the past 4 months in regards to a pro-kit for the Coupe. I drill them about what I need if I get springs for the coupe. They have ALL told me that all I need is the springs. No struts, no shocks, and no camber kit. Since the drop is only about 1.2 inches there is really not much change in camber.

Re: Eibach Pro Kit group buy???

I don't doubt it. That's exactly what they told me re: my Integra.

But, I can tell you that the camber on the front of my 'Teg went to -2.5 degrees after lowering. I took it to get an alignment right after I installed the new springs and struts, and the shop said "your camber is out of spec and we can't adjust it, you need a camber kit". The rear was at -.5 degrees camber after the install. looks like this /--\ where the wheels kind of lean inward at the top.

In 15k miles, my tires did show uneven wear on the front, in spite of what Eibach told me.

I don't know if the G has adjustable camber, but most cars I've seen don't.

Regarding the strut issue. Here is what I do know: I've been a member of a number of different hi-po forums. The concensus has been that hi-rate springs kill OEM quality struts in a relatively short period of time, every time. They can even kill mid-range struts quicky (such as KGB GR-2's) or so I've read and been told. Whether or not the 'sport-tuned' struts on the G can handle the Eibachs, I don't know.

For my 'Teg, Eibach made their own (or sold another brand under their name) struts for my car, which they reccomended.

Bilsteins were a little too stiff in compression, and didn't have enough rebound dampening to keep the car stable on big bumps at higher speeds. The result was a ride where every irregularity on the road was felt in the car (I mean every little crack or rock) and when going over large bumps, or say turning sharply and braking, the car felt like it was going to fly off the road as the springs rebounded. The car could carve a turn though, especially on smooth roads. Body roll completely disappeared, as did most of the understeer.

That being said, the Bilsteins work great with stock springs. Much better than stock struts.

I spoke to Bilstein after purchasing my setup and they told me "don't run our HD struts with lowering springs". The guys who sold me the stuff evidently weren't aware of it, or didn't care.

I'm just trying to relate my experiences here so others don't make the same errors I made (ie believing everything someone tells you, especially when that someone makes money from you buying their product).

Ultimately, what you do to your car is up to you. Just go in aware of what the consequences "might" be. I will never lower another daily driver though. Lowering is great on a weekend car or a race car, IMHO. My '67 Camaro has mega-stiff suspension, but since I don't drive it everyday, it doens't bother me. It corners good, and is a good bit quicker than the G, at least in the 1/4 mile (and loud as hell ). If I had to drive it to work everyday though, it might get a little annoying.

Just trying to help.
