Mustang wheels for Drag Setup. Size/Offset Question

A local guy is selling a pair of 16" mustang wheels for $40. They're from a 94-98. They're a 5 lug, 16x7.5. That's all I know. We don't know offset, nor the measurements of the bolt-pattern. I know some of the z guys will use mustang wheels for drag racing, but I've never been clear on the year of the wheel.

So, for the mustang guys, what's the bolt pattern and offset for this wheel?

So should these fit? What size tires should I opt for?

those v6 wheels are very common 2 use 4 drags or slicks...

I can't give you specifics but I'll look later. But my quick search is these have a 25mm offset. Will fit but will limit the tire size. I used to run 17" mustang wheels on my maxima all the time. Those featured a 30mm offset at 17x8" The Mustang hub bore is larger than the Nissan 66.1mm bore. So the hub bore is okay.

Trey, I know those wheels are cheap but I don't think they are particually light. Some guys on the max forum try to use FD RX7 wheels. They are extremly light. Problem is they have huge neg offsets. Something like 45-50mm. But at least that gives you some wiggle room by using spacers. Plus being a sedan, we can tolerate more offset than a coupe owner

Holy crap that's expensive. That, unfortunately, is not in my budget.

Haha. Trey, just trying to show you an example of what they look like. They are rare but you should be able to easily beat that price.

I tried checking a local forum and the local rx7 club, but nobody has any stock wheels. There is one guy, but his wheels are in a garage in Pensacola(several hundred miles away).

As for these mustang wheels, I'm still confused. Offset eludes me. I've seen various offset diagrams, but they're over my head(dunce computer programmer; I had trouble reading that fake "dyno" remember). Anyway, I'm thinking about going with a set of BFG DR2's, sized 255/50/16. They should fit on the wheel(8" centered, with a range of 7 to 9 inches). The tire is 26.1" tall, and has a 10.3" section width. I gather that the lower the offset, the further out the wheel will be, but the absolute values own me. Will these wheels, plus these tires, fit the sedan? I've got coupe springs in back.

I'm not sure Trey, I can only suggest trying to match what others are doing in the sedan forum. The important thing is the offset/wheel width and tire. As long as a 255-6-16 is sorta close to the original size, you can use other people's info using 17"/18"/19" sizes in terms of if the fit under the fenders or not. We do know that using the coupe 18s/19s with their offsets and 8/8.5" width wheel probably represents the outer limit of offset/tire size. ie.. 245-18/245-19 and 30/33mm offsets respectively.

So offhand, a 255 width tire and a 26mm offset (if that's the offset) will a no go. But I could very well be wrong.

Trey. One other option. You might want to consider the Z32 16s in either NA or Turbo offsets. These are 16s, pretty light (lighter than the Rustangs but heavier than the RX-7 wheels). Widths are either 7.5" na or 8.5" turbo. (I think) Best thing is the hub bore is 66.1mm and the offsets are probably right inbetween the Mustang/Mazda. Probably around 36-38-40mm?? It's been some time since I've thought of these.

Checking.....na offsets: 16" x 7.5" 45mm offset

rear turbo offset 16"x8.5" with a 35mm

Damn you might be in business. I know you can get a 255 on that wheel. 35mm might be near what you need. One of them should work

I KNOW you can get these cheap.

I'm thinking the na offsets and a 7.5" might work best. I'm "pretty" sure a 255 can be squeezed on there okay.

The na offsets will bring the wheel in. I think the sedan has more room "in" than it does "out" (fenderwell)
