Re: 19" SSR GT3 weight?

I found out it's not the weight of the rim that matters. It's the weight of the rim+tire.

I got the SSR agle minerva's w/ SMC. The rear rim (20x10) is 30lbs alone. with 285/30/20 SO3's the total weight of the rim + tire was 67lbs. The friggen tire weighed more then the rim.

Not sure where to find tire weights, but I hear the S-03 is a heavy tire in comparison to others.

A tire that is up to par with the S-03 and light is the Toyo T-1S. Better order them early cuz they take time to get.

Re: 19" SSR GT3 weight?

So I guess a 19" setup isn't neccessarilly lighter then a 20" setup? Given that the 19" and 20" setup is for the same car and keeping close to the same diameter, the 19" tire will have more rubber and weigh more.

I did find out that S03's tend to run wider then other brands. S03's are great, the rubber compound seems better then the stock Pilot Sports.

Re: 19" SSR GT3 weight?

It depends. Every extra inch weighs more than the previous inch, as the circumference is getting larger. The difference between a 19 and a 20 will be greater than an 18 and 19 of the same type of rim. Also, with a larger rim and less tire, you're concentrating the weight farther out from the center of the rim. Given two wheels of the same weight, if one has it's weight close to the hub, and the other one concentrates it towards the outside edge, the one with the weight on the outside will be harder to speed up and slow down. (The force is being applied at the hub, and the weight is farther away, so the engine torque or brake caliper has less leverage on the weighty part of the wheel.)

I understand that concept. It's like prying a rock with a short stick vs. a long stick. It'll be easier to lift the rock at the end of the long stick.

but the tire weighs more then the rim so either size, the majority of the weight is on the outside. {smile] jk I know what your talking about. The solid "non-flexible" mass is what comes into play.

Damn, you learn something everyday. Yeah I heard Toyo's are good, so that might be the tire to go with the rims. I still got 3 months to decide, But I'm really leaning towards the GT3's. Any body have any other rim/tire suggestion (excluding HRE, can't afford those)
Thanx for everynoes help.
