Sedan Wheels on a Coupe Questions
Sedan Wheels on a Coupe Questions
Hi all,
I am new here but have been reading up a lot on my new G35 coupe. I currently have 19"s and am looking for some snow wheels and tires for the winter.
I have a couple of questions that I hope some of you will be able to help me with. I have searched but haven't got enough of an idea if this is the right choice or not.
I am looking at a set of 17" Sedan wheels with 215/55/17 Blizzacks WS-50s all around.
What is the thoughts on putting sedan wheels on a coupe?
Are there any problems with doing this VDC related?
Should I hold out for a coupe set of wheels and keep the staggered configuration?
If there are no problems with this setup is it actually better since the tires are narrower?
Thanks in advanced for all your help!

first thing that comes to mind is offset. sedan wheels use high offset
vs coupe wheels, so it may or may not hit your brake caliper.
your sedan wheels will look super tucked into your coupe.
you can get some 15 or 20mm spacers with studs to fix this.
narrower tires will work better in the snow as the contact patch
is smaller and will therefore bite into the snow instead of floating
on top of it.
honestly speaking, i would order myself a cheepo wheel set
from www.tirerack.com with snow tires and use that during the
winter. Wheels can be non staggered but just stagger the
tires (like how we do it on the stock 18 wheels) if you'd like.
personally, i have a beater (06 civic ex) as my commuter so i
just use that.

Thanks for the info.
I have a 2k6 obviously without Brembos so I thought that the sedan wheels hitting the caliper would not be an issue. Plus the person selling them has a 2k5 coupe I believe.
I know the offset is different but is long as they 'fit' I don't think that the offset would bother me too much. I definitely don't want to use spacers and new studs- too much work for a 2yr lease.
I live in NJ and we get snow but not all the time. My biggest concern will be if I am at work 20 miles away from home and it starts to snow as I don't want to get stuck. Most snow days I will work from home as I don't like to take any chances in the snow.
I really don't want to buy new wheels if I don't have to as I will only have the car for 2 winter seasons but obviously don't want to chance it with the 19"s.
The price for these wheels and tires are in my opinion fair to good. I could wait but don't want to get stuck with nothing when it starts to snow.

^^ you might get more VDC light initially even on the same tire and size if
brand new. you need to break them in first.
if the rear tire is narrower, it might light up more too due to lack
of traction in the dry.
