camber specs after springs-kinda long

after installing my kg/mm springs, i got it aligned yesterday, i notices that my rear end was sorta loose while driving it so i figured i needed to get it done quick, it felt like something was loose. anyway when i got to firestone, everyone there was commenting on the car, yada yada, so they put it on the rack and they were like "woah its way out of spec, you can look at it and see that, we wont be able to correct the camber", then I said "oh yeah you will i put adjustable arms on it". it took a while because the camber and toe were both way off and by correcting one meant hurting the other, so it was trial and error. there were two adjusting points, my new arms and the inner bolt on the rear spring perch. here are the results

front left before front left after
camber toe caster camber toe caster
-1.7 -0.05 9.2 -1.6 0.03 9.0

front right before front right after
camber toe caster camber toe caster
-1.3 -0.10 9.0 -1.4 0.01 9.1

rear left before rear left after
camber toe camber toe
-2.5 0.35 -2.4 0.05

rear right before rear right after
camber toe camber toe
-2.2 0.25 -1.9 0.06

so as you can see my rear toe and camber were way off, thats why my rear end felt loose, much better now, we could get the rear right in spec as far as toe and camber but the rear left couldnt get in spec for camber, its about .4 off, the toe was incredibly way off, the max is 0.11 and mine was 0.35. I guess the camber arms helped some but i dont know what the left wont get right, kinda disappointing but oh well.

As far as the front goes, there is no camber adjustment yet, there are some adjustable arms coming out soon.

Before adjustments I was in the red on all counts, now I got 3/5 green on fronts and the two remaining reds are camber and caster but the caster is right on the line and the camber is very close also so I wont worry about that, and rear is all green except left camber. So all in all Im happy with the drop and ride along with the springs and camber arms. Its a mod I am gonna enjoy, I can tell already. But I do scrub even on my driveway, AND ITS FLAT AND LEVEL!, kinda low dont you think?

Wait, you got the aftermarket camber/toe rods and you STILL coudn't get it in spec? with just springs? That doesn't seem right. Those new adjustable rods would allow for down to a 3" drop I believe. hmmmm

Re: camber specs after springs-kinda long

Not sure if he has the toe rod, but I can tell you even if he did, it will only do a very SLIGHT adjustment. The camber rod works great, but toe adjustment is more important.

Anyways, for some reason most G's left rear is wacked after the car has been lowered. As mentioned in my Camber post I can adjust my right rear to way within spec, but my left rear was off. So I had to settle with 2.1 camber to get my toe to spec. I really wanted 1.2 camber in the rear. Ultimately I've decided not to continue my journey to get my camber at my desire level. It's property tax time, and I have to hold off on my mods until that is payed off.

yeah even with the camber rods its out on the left, if i didnt have them it would be way off, i dont regret getting them, i was like wreck, i had to settle with what i could get, toe was more important, they give you a certain range to stay in, im close, but wreck isnt 1.2 too low, i think they allow -1.3 to -1.6, anyway i recommend the camber arms if you lower, i might even take it to another place to see what they say, and when you say toe rod do you mean the traction bar lsdunique sells, because the guys at firestone said the camber arms are actually the toe adjusters and the bolt on the rear spring perch is more of a camber adjuster, but they work together.

Re: camber specs after springs-kinda long

Maxium Camber Spec is -1. With my driving style (non aggressive) I don't need that much camber. -1 thru -1.2 is perfect for me. I want the maximum treadwear. Keep in mind when the car is in motion it will move up and down.

The traction bar that LSD sells is not a true toe adjustment. It's more of a helper. I beleive it is very limited in how much you can force the toe out. Only about .3 degrees (maybe less) without stressing the suspension.

What the Firestone guy said is incorrect. The true toe adjustment on our car is on the rear lower shock housing. Their is an escentric (spelling) bolt there where you can adjust the toe. The stock camber adjust is on the rear suspension member. What he said was true is that they do work together. You can't just adjust camber and expect the toe to be at the same spec.

I order the Tein Basics also, I was wondering if you bought the camber rods too and what was your experience when you had the car aligned?

Thanks, J.

Re: camber specs after springs-kinda long

Here is my suggestion. After you install the Tein Basic, drive around for a few weeks. Get the car alighned so see if you can get it to spec. If you are really going to dump the car more than 1.5"'s then get the camber bar and install them the same time you install the Tein's. Then get your car aligned.

Re: camber specs after springs-kinda long

thats a good idea to drive around for a couple weeks before allignment. People forget that new springs need to settle. So the car is going to drop a little bit more and an allignment would be pointless to get right away after installing springs.

I'm going to do that when I get coil overs. just drive around at the stock height till they settle in. then lower the car and get the allignment.

I think the camber kit is needed even without a drop and 20" rims installed. Since I installed my 20"s the camber is very noticeable and the outer edge of the tire isn't getting rubbed at all. I'm just afraid I'll be rubbing with the camber kit since the tire is already on the edge.

Re: camber specs after springs-kinda long

i was planning on waiting to get alignment but my rear end was so out of whack, the rear end was real loose, when i hit a bump it was fishtailing pretty bad so i figured i needed to get it done before i crashed. but that is a great idea.

Re: camber specs after springs-kinda long

nevermind, I just stopped by an allignment specialist on my way home from work. he told me it doesn't matter, the coil over springs won't settle that much. another thing that was really weird, he's never seen a g35coupe before. he's never heard of one before.

I asked him if the rims were going to get scratched. told me that some of the 20's are really hard to get the "heads" onto. Because tires now days sometimes come over and cover the lip. but he's going to put some kind of tape to prevent the lip from getting scratched just in case.
