snow tires?

did anyone put on a set last year? if so, what brand, rims and where'd you get them? tire rack doesn't list one for '04. for this kind of power i'd have to say all seasons won't cut it in the white stuff. i drive a rear driver right now with dunlop sp5000's and it's barely drivable in the snow despite the good press about this tire's all season capabilities...

Re: snow tires?

Use the '03 G35 in TireRack -- Infiniti didn't change the tire sizes. Also, there are several threads discussing snow tires in the Tires/Wheels/Suspension forum.

Re: snow tires?

Most of the threads in the tires forum are all coupe oweners who really need snow tires.

As a sedan owner, I'm wondering if I'm the only cheap *** who is considering 16" snow tires on their own black rims and hubcaps? It only costs $556+tax+shipping. I'd prefer not to get road salt on 17"s that are $200/rim.

Re: snow tires?

I ordered a set of 16 inch alloy rims and Dunlop WinterSport SP2 high-performance snow tires (225/60/16) -- The Dunlops got a great review from consumer reports last year (2nd place in H-rated snows). I had to go with the wider tire to match the diameter of the stock tires (within 1.2%), and there are many choices in the 225/60 size -- normally a narrower snow is desirable, but one cm in width shouldn't make much difference. I also know someone who has been driving with the Dunlops in Rochester for the last 3 winters (on an Audi TT), and loves them.

I haven't put them on the car yet, but we were getting some flurries this morning, so I'll let everyone know how they work once I put them on (soon?).

Re: snow tires?

16" are great for snow tires. just be sure to run something about the same overall diameter (a taller profile tire). I don't own a G35 but I would just want to make sure that 16s will clear the brakes that you have on your car. Good luck.

Re: snow tires?

The base (cloth) sedan for '03 came with 205/65R16 tires, so that's a good size. TireRack has Blizzak WS-50's in this size.

If you want a different tire, use the Tire Size Calculator to make sure it's close to the original diamter. Less than +/- 1.0% is great, 3.0% is the max off you want to be.

Re: snow tires?

I bought a cheap set of 16 inch alloy rims and Michelin winter tires for my sedan. Now I am waiting for snow to try them out. I bought Michelin Arctic Alpins 215/60-16s. I was looking for a set up that would give me a higher side wall (better in snow) and I didn't wanna go wider than 215 because wider is also worse in the snow. Cost me $844--and Michelin sent me a free JVC DVD player as a rebate for buying 4 tires--so that was nice.

Buying cheap wheels and hubcaps for 16 inch is certainly a reasonable if you aren't bothered by the the way it looks for a few months of the year.
