Help!!! Oem Tires Bald

My 2006 6MT Coupe just turned 9K miles and guess what…all 4 tires are about bald?!!!? I know that tires are wear items and are dependant on the owner’s driving style, but with just 9K miles they should be about half worn, even with my “spirited” driving style. This is a bit depressing as I know how much they cost to replace. According to Tirerack.com the rear is $286 and the front is $258 a piece—multiple each by two and add together---the total comes out to about $1100 without install or tax or shipping. I was looking around for alternative brands and/or sizes to save a bit of money. Previously, I used Kumhos for my last car (BMW E46 3-series with 18s) and was pretty happy with them as they are cheap and are relatively good performing tires. I was thinking about switching the stock brand with Kumhos but they don’t make tires with the stock dimensions of: 225/40 r19 front, and 245/40 r19 rear.

Question 1: Are there anything wrong with these tires, or do they just normally wear out after 9K miles or so (“soft” compound tires)?
Question 2: Can I get these tires partially replaced by Infiniti or the dealership?
Question 3: Is it safe to replace them with different sizes such as: 235/35 r 19 front, and 275/30 r 19 rear?
Question 4: Why is question 3 yes (if applicable)?

Please only answer if you believe that you are an expert on this topic (tires/rims).

Note: I have done a search on this and 17 pages popped up. I gave up reading the first 2 pages.

speaking of tires/rims, this thread belongs there. lol

but, to answer your question... after my tires gave out, I went the cheapest way possible (at the time):

General Exclaim UHP 225/35/19 for the front, and 245/35/19 for the rear.

$600 installed.

w00t.

Sheesh...9k and all four at bald?!? I'm at 22k miles on my 05' and I literally have about 55% thread left. Seriously...you need to invest in some radial tires and not run flats. Swap your 19" with someone's 17" because not only will the tires last longer (50k) but they'll cost half the price.

I bought my '04 6mt with 7.5k miles. I'm at 33k miles now, and the fronts have at least 50% left, and rears are about 15-25% and I'm thinking of throwing them out as the winter comes, especially since I decided to use their last months to practice safe peelouts and back-end slides. I rotated the fronts and rears few months ago, by rotating side to side, then dismounting the tires and remounting them in the right direction.
I like the michelins but not the price, so bought 4 rear michelins used for $290 shipped on ebay. By the time I'll use those 2 sets, the fronts should still be good and it's going to be time to trade in the car. Look and you will find, good luck.

If you don't track your car, go to Tire Rack and look into getting some General UHP tires. Made by Continental, there are many people who are praising them even though they are so cheap. Go look at Tire Rack reviews.

1) 9K seems to be pretty low, but it is really dependent on how "spirited" we are talking about.

2) If there was a treadwear warranty you would have a good chance, but that is unlikely since they are UHP tires and OE. OE tires generally don't have treadwear warranties. But the tire manufacturer could find that the tires were defective in some way and opt to partially replace them.

3-4) Yes it is safe to replace them with different sizes. Those particular sizes I cannot make too many comments on, but the rear might be a little wide for the OE rim. You may want to look at a 245 for the front, because it is a more typical size.

I'm going with a set of the General Exclaims for the rear of my Base Coupe with 17s. I presently have the Avon 550s and before these the RSAs. All of them wore prematurely in the rear middle treads. For $111 each from tirerack, how could I go wrong? They have gotten great reviews.
