it prevents the back wheel from being installed on the front. remove it.

Wouldn't putting larger washers on the lugs yield the same result as the spacer, plus they're easier to find?

But then that causes the wheel to have less surface area for the lug nuts to torque against, and may be of slightly varying thicknesses which may result in vibration. A 3mm spacer is relatively cheap anyways.

True, unless you use a washer about the size of a half dollar. The pictures of that universal spacer seem to provide less wheel contact than washers would.

i apologize for bringing an old thread back.

i was wondering...since there's about a dime width of clearance between the brembo's and the OEM 17's(front), ...does anyone know how much of a original clearance(preferable in millimeters) are the non-brembo calipers and the OEM 17's(front)?

I'm just trying to get a measurement on differences of the brembo and non-brembo for wheel clearance. i have posted a thread before concerning this matter but no definite answer received.

Apology? You need to be praised! That's what you're supposed to do instead of opening up new threads. As for the measurement, I'm not sure. In hindsight, I wish I would have taken my caliper and measured.

yeah basically this would help people with brembos and minimum size spacer required for aftermarket wheels that was initially intended for non brembo calipers.

I've got responses saying a rough 2" or so difference, and some say just to use a 25mm spacer but even that doesn't exactly say if it's dime clearance or a finger clearance after using a spacer of that size.

i'll eventually find someone, maybe my old co-worker, who had non-brembos and see if he'll let me take some measurements. Sure would be nice to get the info here though.

I wanted to add:

just to clear things up...let's say i have wheels that's made for the non-brembos and it currently has a dime clearance.

Now i want to put those exact same wheels on the OEM brembos, what size spacer would i need to get the SAME dime clearance(not more, not less) on the oem brembo calipers? Front and Rear.

bump,

does anyone have a G35 coupe with stock 17's non-brembo brakes that can take a measurement for me?

Roll the wheel so the one of the spokes is directly on the center of the caliper, and take a measurement of the gap(maybe in centimeters since a school ruler is easier to come by). I can always do the measurement conversion later. Do this for the front and rear. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh hey bryant, i meant to ask, the rear didn't have an clearance problems with the 17s and brembos right? You think you can get a measurement of the clearance on the rear? Thanks again.

And this old thread answers yet another question. too bad I had to start a thread to find this thread.

Thanks...

I actually have a set of 3mm spacers left over from my TL, so I may just put them on the 18's now.

I just did my brembo swap a few weeks back and used my stock 17's. Technically you do not need any spacers but the front was just to close for comfort. I put a 5mm spacer on the front, no spacer on the rear and all is good.

I just ordered a set of 25mm all around thoe for my new summer tires. So as a note save yourself money and just get 25mm all around instead of 2 sets like I did.
