Winter tires for ONLY the front wheels?

Hey guys, I have a question that I am desperately looking for an answer for......My front tires are getting bald, while the rears still have about 40% life left from the stock tires. Since winter is coming around the corner, do you think it will be okay to give the front 2 wheels winter tires and leaving the rears alone? I dont want to spend $200 per tire for the rears when i dont need them. Please advise!!! thanks everyone

Snow tires go all the way around. Especially with a rear wheel drive car.

definately get all 4, just shop around to find a good price or bite the bullet. it could be tires now or end up in a ditch and have to pay your deductible or worse.

Perhaps a better question is why not get replacements for the front of whatever you have in rear? If you are going for summer and winter sets, go all out, otherwise stick to all seasons.
