Clear coat on wheels

I was wondering how hard it would be to clear coat my wheels.

Here's the story:
I bought my G35 used with scratches on both front rims. The dealer said they would have a wheel and tire expert come in and repair the wheels since their service dept didn't do that kinda work. Well the dealer came through and did a great job of removing the scratches on the wheels. The scratches were mostly gone and I was a very happy camper. However, after a month after the repair I was detailing my car and I noticed that my left rear wheel was shinier than my 2 front and rear right wheels. It seems that there was no clear coat on any of the wheels except the left rear wheel. I called the dealer and they said that the wheel expert sanded the wheel down and put a 1 stage paint coat which includes a clear coat. I dont know if this is true but all I know is that in the light the rear wheel w/ the clear coat is subtley shinier than all the other wheels and keeps brake dust off much better. Another puzzling thing is why the right rear wheel doesn't have a clear coat on it. I told the dealer that the scratches were only on the front rims. Now I'm thinking that the rear wheel never had a clear coat when I bought it (I guess was just excited about finding a used G35 in the color + options I wanted on the lot).

Now the dealer is giving me a hard time about putting a clear coat on the wheels so I was thinking if its not too hard I would do it myself.

You might try checking with a local paint & body shop for a 2nd opinion and pricing.

Re: Clear coat on wheels

You may also want to think About powder coating. You can choose the color, and your sure all the wheels will be the same.
