I wnet to one of the local tire dealer today at bayview and green.
I ask him for 215/55-R17
They told me pirelli got 215/50-17
And cost like 1200can everything included even installation...
But i was wondering....whats the different between 215/55 and 215/50 ??
And is this price cheap or standard?
Interm of size for original wheel...what other option do i have interm of size...as you all know SIZE DOSE MATTER

Re: Size does matter

dude go search for 225/50, 235/50, 215/55 on websites like tirerack and discount tires.com. You should be able to find a full set of brand new Michelins for under 900 including mounting and balancing. You CAN get 245/45's to fit on the stock wheel if it has a tough enough sidewall (not recommended but they will fit.

Lowest Ihave seen one of those tire sizes for was 150 per tire for Kumho's I think

Re: Size does matter

Most 245/45R17's require a 7.5" wide rim. 245/50 will fit, but it's quite a bit off on the speedometer. The general recommendation that I've heard is that you don't want to go greater than a +/-3.0% variation from OEM.

Size / Percent Variation
215/55R17 / 0.0%
235/50R17 / -0.2%
225/50R17 / -1.7%
225/55R17 / +1.6%
245/50R17 / +1.3% (May be too big and have rubbing issues)

215/50R17 / -3.2% (too far off original size)
245/45R17 / -2.4% (most likely won't fit a 7" wide rim - I wouldn't trust it)

Our stock size only has 3 available tires, the 3 that come from the factory: Goodyear Eagle GS-D (summer performance), Eagle RS-A (all-season performance) and Bridgestone Turanza EL42 (all-season touring).

235/50R17 is the best alternate size theoretically, but there isn't much in the way of performance rubber available in this size. Although, you can get some good touring tires in this size cheaply.

225/55R17 seems to have the best performance tires selection, from my research.

Officially, Infiniti recommends going no wider than 225 for the front axle, and that you should maintain the same size on all 4 corners to keep the VDC system from getting confused. Unofficially, 235 seems to be fine, and I haven't heard of problems with 245. Also, very slight variations in front-to-rear size don't mess with VDC.

Re: Size does matter

Subrobo: Don't know if your local shop has been good to you in the past, but if they're suggesting a tire that's 3.2% smaller in diameter than stock, you should look somewhere else.

In the Toronto area, I'd suggest tireworks in Mississauga (they're a major dealer and act as wholesaler for other shops), and I've personally used Steelcase Tires & Mags -- which should be pretty close to you if you're looking at Bayview & Greenlane.

Pirelli 210 does come in the stock 215/55R17 size.

Unless $1200 Canadian includes taxes, I think you can also do better on the price (including installation).

Good luck.
