Re: lowered with 19" keeps scraping

Utilizing aftermarket springs automatically adjusts the spring rate and height. Since the springs are shorter, this will give less travel for the shocks to move up and down; thus, placing more pressure on the shocks......this in turn GENERALLY causes more wear on the shocks. There's also another factor one must realize when determining how fast the shocks will wear and that's by the height dropped. So, given a person who lowered his/her vehicle 1.1" compared to 2.5" is inherently variable on the wear and tear on the shocks.

It's also important to note that just because of one's experience doesn't generalize to all the rest........so because something that happened to you before may not be the case for many others. True, there are many cars out there that have lowered their vehicles and have not had blown shocks, but this isn't to say that because the shocks haven't blown doesn't mean that it's not wearing out sooner.

As for price comparison between spring / shock setup......yes, coilovers are generally more expensive, especially when you get into JDM suspension setups, but from my personal opinion........having the shocks, springs, and helper springs made in one setup would suit the vehicle better than doing a mix and matching setup......but at a cost slightly higher.

Re: lowered with 19" keeps scraping

youre right im sure im the only one thats happened to, and no my experience doesnt relate to everyone just as yours doesnt either, yes some would like the setups to come as a unit with everything together but with my springs(not eibach), i can buy shocks to my liking and mix and match which is good, where with buying coilovers youre pretty much stuck with what you get unless you sell the entire setup, and in 3-4 years IF my shocks go out ill just buy some nice aftermarket shocks, if any are made for the G, and mine will still probably ride better than most coilover setups, and still be cheaper. granted you cant adjust the heights of the suspension with springs but really who ever does that anyway. i was gonna get coilovers but couldnt justify buying them, just to say i had coilovers.

I too, have torn a few mesh fibers on the 'flx.' I don't know too much about that part of the car, but do those torn fiber ultimately affect anything?

Your GTC's look like 18's in that picture. I don't know if it's just a bad angle or what but something looks off to me.

With a look at the list of mods you got there, I'm sure you wouldn't mind replacing it with the JIC Y pipe once it's torn all the way through.

Re: lowered with 19" keeps scraping

But you have a G35 lowered w/20s, or at least you did. Why do you say this? Just wondering because I want to lower my coupe and I have 20s.

Re: lowered with 19" keeps scraping

Exactly what kind of springs do you have? How is the ride? What camber parts did you use.
