Winter Setup - Canada GTA or other

For an 06 Coupe Auto

Well been doing a lot of reading.

Going with 225/55/17.
Although a rep at tires123 told me to do 225/55/17 as this is what is preferred by most coupe owners that have passed through his shop.
Suggestions?

Well I pretty much see that the Dunlop Wintersport M3's were the tire of choice by most coupe and sedan owners here. But I am now realizing that these tires may be better in wet and dry rather than in snow simply because they are a more performance rated tire.

Cheap thrills in Milton suggested the Dunlop Wintersport Graspic but a friend of mine has it and they said that it is not all that good. They recommmeded is as it is more of a winter tire over the M3's.

As for the Blizzack's, i read a lot about people saying that the thread life is not all that good with them. At first it is a really good winter tire and then it becomes more of an all season really fast.

For winter tires, to me, what is the most important is how they perform in snow/ice/sleet etc first and foremost and if that means sacifice in low rated tires, then i dont care. Afterall, there are winter tires.

Thanks for listening guys and hope you can comment.

I have Pirelli Winter 210 SnowSports on my '06 sedan (17s, I forget the width) and I find them to be pretty good in snow, not that great on ice, and very good on both dry and wet. Overall, I like them very much!

I had Dunlop Wintersport M2s on my 350Z and HATED them. While they were better on ice than the Pirellis, they were horrible on dry pavement... squirmed around like I was driving on a bed of marbles.

I recommend going with a winter sport tire, rather than a pure snow tire, because you'll still spend a lot of your time on dry/wet tarmac.

Very good advice here, as i was leaning more to the "dedicated" winter tire setup. Well seeing that the Wintersport M3's (and now got recommended Dunlop Sport 3D from someone else now), are mainly performance winters, i may focus more on them again.

Very good feedback, thanks....
BTW is your sedan AWD or RWD?

Good advice going with a performance winter tire if the majority of your driving is dry pavement.
I went with a straight winter tire (Blizzak) on my last two G35Xs since I do travel a fair bit of ice and snow covered roads.

Well I'm in the GTA and this winter there was not much snow *knock on wood*

But that will not dictate what is in store for future winters to come. hmmmm tough call.

Nonetheless i got quoted about $1710 - $1800 out the door CAN by calling around megawheelz, tires123, Tire World, etc. (included rims, not steelies)

This is for Dunlop WinterSport M3's 225/55/17's

Megawheelz quoted me the cheapest so far and I discovered them from a thread by BigG (Troy) who said to ask for Wayne. Very helpful and informative when I Called too.

Now to decide performance winter or dedicated winter.

Doesn't dedicated winters thread life wear out faster? As they are of a softer compound?

They do say they wear faster due to the compounds, but, on my last G35 I used my Blizzak WS-50 tires two winters and my tire dealer checked them and there was 85-90% wear left on the tires. So they did not wear very fast, but my conditions are much different then yours. I sold those tires and rims to another sedan owner on the board here.
I considered getting the Dunlop M3s this year for my 07 but after I discovered how little my Blizzaks had worn and also the M3s were quite a bit more money, I purchased the Blizzaks again.

I also use the WS-50's like Wayne. I still an using them after 4 seasons. The tread wear is very minimal( maybe 80% still left) so far. That is from mid November to late March, every year.

I'm in the GTA too!!!

Wow, well maybe the Blizzaks that i read about was different models like the LM-22's etc.

I will research the Blizzack WS-50 some more. You know what, i prefer a winter tire more than a performance tire...So maybe the WS-50 is the best choice.

Anyone else about the Wintersport M3's?
