I got my oil change today, I have around 9200 miles on my G and they told me I need new rear tires. They are apparently at 2/32, which the guy told me is almost bald. I don't know much about tires so all is appreciated. I looked and the inner part of my tire tread is very bald for the rears so I need new ones. Im only going to get rears for right now and I am not looking to spend a ton. I've looked on other threads and didn't find what I was looking for. I don't really care what size/offset I get for my rears for now as long as everything works correctly. What do you guys think about these?

9k miles on 17" tires ? did you burnout a lot or something ?

 

i just switched my tires at 8500 miles but that was due to peeling out WAY too much the first month i had the car. try www.tirerack.com theyre prices are unbeatable. what size do the tires say on them now??? as for offsets, thats for wheels, not tires

 

Not really, just the occasional fast take off or "drifting" around a corner, nothing really intense though.

As for the size they are Eagles 235 - 50 - 17. I dont remember the exact lettering though

 

I think I found your problem.

All that does is eat away your tires, especially when you are doing it on gritty public roads.

If you stop playing tokyo drift your tires will last MUCH longer

 

Check eBay. I got a set of Michelin Pilots for my G. 245/45/-18 W Rated for $249.00 for the pair. They showed up and were like new. The guy did plus size wheel upgrade and I was able to reap the benefits. That's less than half of what they would cost new in my case.

 

True, but you also won't have as much fun. Fun costs $$.

 

I needed new tires around that milage too. You must do donuts a lot, thats why I needed tires.

 

Actually, my first set lasted 14,000 miles and my second set lasted 20,000. I'm on my third set of rears and am at 40k. Fronts lasted 26,000 miles. I had them dismounted and rotated to eek that many miles out of them. Overall, it's a fairly decent wear pattern that I'm getting on my Coupe. Once you get over romping the gas all the time, tire life extends significantly. =)

 

These are way better tires than your Goodyears, go for it!

I have an 04 Coupe with 17s and 19,000 miles. I am a very conservative driver. I am on my 3rd set of tires! I had RSAs as original equipment, lasted 7,000 miles before reaching 2/32nds on the rear middles. The fronts were fine. I had them replaced for free by the dealer to a 2nd set of RSAs. The rears on the 2nd set went for 6,000 miles with a little more than 2/32nds on the rear middles. Again the fronts had plenty of meat. The dealer replaced my tires for free and I chose the Avon 550 A/S all around. I have 6,000 miles on the tires with 5/32nds on the rear middles meaning that I might get a few thousand more miles out of them before throwing in the sponge. The fronts are feathering very badly (the RSAs didn't) and are screaming with road noise. Please be aware that most G35 Coupes with factory rims and orginal suspension will eat up any tire you put on them. Most owners don't even know about this problem unless the car is on a lift because standing at the back of the car and looking, the rears look great because the inside and outside wear fine. This is a common problem that infiniti will not step up to the plate with but they are quite aware of it. Do yourself a favor and file a complaint with Infiniti Consumer affairs so that you have a paper trail. You can also go to www.nissantireproblems.com to get the whole story. It's the same problem as the 350Z so don't waste you money on expensive tires unless you buy different wheels and invest in a camber kit. This is an expensive investment, and I am going the route of replacing my tires as needed. I am not happy and have been close to selling my car because of this horror show that Infiniti won't deal with.

 

I read something about how the 350Z was having the same problem, and from I can remember it was because the rear toe would register within spec on the machine, but due to some soft factory bushings (?), the toe/camber would pull out of spec when the car started rolling.

I wish I could tell you more specific info, but I was a Subaru guy at the time and chalked the article to "that sucks for them".

 

I wish it was that simple........it's not. The front end alignment/geometry is flawed and the negative camber cannot be adjusted. The rear middle tread wear is another story. Possibly rims that are too narrow to accomodate the larger tire. Regardless... it is a major problem for the Coupe owners.
