A-disk, O-disk, R-disk - what's the difference?

so i'm looking at a spec sheet for wheels and i saw these three types of disks:
  • A-disk (standard)
  • O-disk (deep dish)
  • R-disk (big caliper)

what is the difference between these beyond the obvious intent of each disk type?

thanks!

it sounds like you're looking at Work wheels. The A disk is flat, the O disk is more concaved and the R disk is more convexed.

ssshhhh

but yeah so i assume the disk refers to the part of the wheel that fills the barrel? is any disk type better than another, all other things being equal?

it's just a matter of taste and function. Obviously if you have a BBK, you need the R disk. But I personally don't like the convexed look at all. I'd rather have less lip with a more agressive offset to clear the brakes, rather than an ugly looking wheel center.

In your sedan I'd go with a A disk in the front and O disk in the rear. It will have a nice staggered look. Also, depending on the wheel a lot of wheels with the A disk will clear a BBK.
