Tire Feathering
Tire Feathering
So I heard this roaring sound at low speeds and also when braking.... It's unbearable.... my car has 27k miles. but since i used snow tires. I probably only put 17k miles on the 19 inches stock summer tires.
I made an appointment with the dealership next monday, I am expecting the dealership will say, that I need new front tires. That's like $600 bucks installed.
What else can I do guys? am I so unlucky to have this problem, as many of you don't have this issue. Help!!!

i have this problem. i have feathering, but tire roar isn't much of an issue yet. i also run winter tires. what can u do? not much after the fact. i'm trading my car in this year for something different. so i'm just gonna live with the problem and let some other poor soul deal with it.

What car are you getting?
Join the club! If you have a Coupe you have front tire feathering and most probably tire roar. My front tires after 7,000 miles (Avon 550 A/S) are making so much noise I'm planning on replacing them with the original crappy Goodyear RSAs that were very very quiet. I have 17s. All Coupes have major tire noise. Some can deal with it while others have gotten rid of their cars because of it. I'm still debating this issue. Between the rattles and tire noise I'm looking at the 07G35 sedan. I'll see what happens after I change my fronts back to the RSAs.

I have had this issue for 3 months now and could not bear it no longer, the roaring was deafening when coming to a stop or slowing down. I even had it aligned and they managed to get it back within specs as mine is not lowered that much but alas it was to late and the noise was still there, today I got my new tires on and oh god it is so sweet, it is so quite that I feel like I am missing something..lol. I had Toyo T1R's on mine also and the tread is still pretty darn good but there no good if there feathered.
Some tires are just noisier in general due to the tread design and depth and size of the blocks. Saying this, these tires might be somewhat noisey when new, but once feathered they turn into a "Hyde"! On the other hand, some tires are inherently quiet, and once they are feathered are not quite as noticeabley noisey as the more aggressive designed tires. Therefore, it's a matter of research, asking others, and luck when it comes to chosing your tires. Unfortunately, due to the excessive expense of tires, it really hurts to try to eliminate the roar and pick the wrong sneakers for your car. I guess that is why some owners have given up.
