larger tires on stock rims

Hey guys, my 05 is due for new rubber. I'd like to put on wider tires on my stock 19s. Has anyone done this before? Any pics of the results?

The stock sizes are:

225/40-19 front
245/40-19 rear

I'd like to put on

245/35-19 front
275/35-19 rear

What do you guys think? I don't want to hurt performance, but I don't like the skinny look of the stock setup...

I think that is too much.
You could prolly get away with 245 for the front and 255 for the rear.
But what you acre proposing is too much.

Thanks for all the good replies! I've been on the fence with this one for a while now. I asked a tire tech the largest tire that could fit on the rear 8.5" rim...according to him, 275/35 would work. I'm just not sure if it's a good idea. (don't want to hurt handling, I want more grip!)

This is a cool website that allows you to play around with different sizes. Thought I'd share to the group....

^this site suggests 255 for the widest tire for the rear.

These Coupes already have issues with the rear tires wearing prematurely on the middle treads with the stock tires. I would be careful going any wider as you will be changing the footprint of the tread and possibly start making it concave causing the middle tread wear. Don't necessarily believe the specs for your rim width. It's always safer to go with a rim width at the top of the recommended sizes. Too wide a tire on too narrow a rim will cause the tread to bulge outwards.

I just installed 245/35/19 Front and 255/40/19 rear. It looks great, and I can launch better with less slippage. Anything wider in the rear is not a good idea.

This tire size calculator rules all. Check it out...you'll see that 255/40/19 rear is the closest to stock height that you can get.

And if you want the best possible prices for Toyo tires, I'd recommend TireDeals4Less (site sponsor). I couldn't believe how inexpensive they were compared to other vendors.

How do the Toyo's compare to Goodyear Eagle F1's?
