Updated- Experience with Blizaaks.Thoughts?

Now that I have been driving on the Blizaaks for some time (16s), I have a better idea of the characteristics. Here are a few observations:
- it is easy to engage SLIP in dry with heavy dose of the throttle (not WOT though)
Sure makes me miss the Eagles
- the handling definitely looses precision
- some of the fun is gone from the driving - no flinging the car around tight turns with wild abandon.

All said and done, I don't mind the tradeoff for a few months.

How is everyone else doing with Blizaaks (or other snow tires for that matter)?

I agree with your findings on the Blizzaks WS-50 (215-65/16). Still think they are better than the Michelin Artic-Alpins I had in my previous Nissan Maxima. I have only had them for several weeks, so time will tell for sure.

I debated getting the Dunlops, Nokian, or other higher performance Winter tires, but because I only use them for 3-4 months I didn't think it was necessary. I still have not gotten the chance to try them out in severe snow/ice. NJ has 50 degress this weekend.

I am definitely getting rid of the RSAs once their tread is gone. Likely go with with dedicated Summer Tires, and use the Blizzaks for Winter.

I too have Blizzaks on for about 3 weeks now. I feel some loss of precision as opposed to the summer tires but since the car was useless in the snow I feel the trade is well worth it. Besides , it adds to the anticipation of putting summers back on in the spring.
Don't get me wrong, the tires are not squirrely, just provide a slower turn in to corners and on ramps. I'm not really pushing the tires as I would like to get 3-4 years out of them.

I've had Blizzak LM-18s for over a year now. They are very close to the handling of a 60 series A/S tire of similar rating on dry roads. No comparison to the WS-50s I tried. Very happy with mine. We'll see how they wear.

I like my Blizzaks too. The car is a bit more nervous but when driving through the snow it is like a totally different car. Be fore I put the Blizzaks on the car would slip a bit on cold roads without snow. Now there is no question about being on the road and I can plow through snow.

Yes, your WS-50s are probably even better than my LM-18s in deep snow! Winter tires are a must in the snow belt.

Re: Updated- Experience with Blizzaks.Thoughts?

I installed the 17" Blizzak LM22's (on ASA K3 rims) on my coupe last night, it is definately a different feel but the car is inoperable in even the smallest amount of snow. I am hoping by installing these tires it will not snow again! pics to follow.

I'm running with Pirelli Winter 210 Snowsports. I haven't tested them yet in the snow....but, having driven them on dry roads, no complaints so far.
