275/35/18 or 255/40/18 okay?

275/35/18 or 255/40/18 okay?
So I've been running 245/40/18 on the front and 275/40/18 on the rears for ~2 years now. I got a flat yesterday and I think I may need to replace the tire. So for the longest time I wanted to go to a low profile tire in the rear (replacing both rear tires, of course).
Reading the threads in this section, it seems that some folks say 275/35/18 is okay because it is with in "5%" of the original size. Some folks say it is not okay because the circumference is the same as the front and will throw off the VDC.
I would like to know for sure if 275/35/18 is okay to use in the rear in combination with 245/40/18 in the front from anybody with real world experience and has no VDC problems.
Alternatively, I was thinking of going with 255/40/18 in the rear. Same profile, but the sidewall would be a little shorter than the P275's. I figure it would have less of a chance of having VDC problems since it is still 0.3" taller than the 245/40/18. Also it would be skinnier tire in the rear, so I would theoretically have more oversteer. Just wondering if this is okay too.
I apologize, since this has been discussed before. but I would like to have a definitive answer. Thanks.

right now I having 255/40/18f and 275/40/18 rear this is the correct dia. compared to oem 19" set up. if you r going with 245/40f and 275/35 rear is not that much off. I did have 255/35/20f and 285/30/20 r which didn't throw a light either and that is way off oem spec. I woudn't go with 275/35 because is a lower profile and I wouldn't go with 255 because the withd is too small. I rather go with 285-295/35/18 if I were you. you gonna going to buy new tires anyway. why not do it right.
