That was then.......ETC!
Back in the day all tires had the same tred design as I recall. Now days no
two tires have the same tred even with the same company. Cutiewooof call
Tire Rack and just ask them the question.......I seriously doubt if having
different tires would make much difference unless you hit a major rainstorm.
Good Luck, I hope this will help.......

Depends on how hard you drive. Back when I used to autocross, I tried to run a few events with different tires on front and rear and it was a real disaster. The car became wildly unpredictable at the limit and was a real bear to recover when things got ugly.
I suspect that mixed tires in rainy/wet conditions would be scary, too.

I've had BF Goodrich KDW's in the front and Falkens 451's in the rear. No problems. The Avon Tech M500's rear. No problems. Now I have BF Goodrich KDW2 NT in the rear. Again different tread than the traditional tread. No problems.
I do recall there was one mix that threw off the VDC. I think they had stock Michelin Pilot sports in front and Avon Tech M550 in the rear. But I think in that case they mixed a summer tire (Pilot Sports) with an all season tire (M550).
I think as long as you have similar traction type tires, you are okay. In the case of the Toyos you should be okay. Straight line should not trip the VDC (I think Toyo's are actually a bit stickier). But if you track the car, I think the BF Goodrich have a better corner limit (stiffer side wall), so you may have some more oversteer in the middle of a turn as the rears break loose.
Around town, you should be okay. Personally, I have a separate set of track wheels, which I always have matched tires.

I have Michelin Pilot sports in the front (about 23,000 miles on them) and I just put on Toyo Proxes 4 in the rear...I am having all kinds of slipping long curves etc in the front due to different tread design. I am going back to Les Scwab later on today to order new wheels and tires. Hope this helps.
