Will 225/40/18" look ugly on sedan? Please help.

It would be too small. 4.7% smaller than the stock diameter. The general recommendation is to stay inside +/- 3% of the stock size. 225/45/18 would work better.

Sites like tirerack.com list appropriate plus sizes for our vehicle, and this tire size calculator can help you find out if other sizes are close enough.
