Affect on upsizing?

Hi,

My '04 6MT sedan will need new rubber soon. I would like to replace the 215/55's with something a bit wider. The stock size has always seemed narrow to me. I have looked at 225 & 235 width.

Using the sticky tire size calculator it appears that a 225/55 or 50 tire will give more error than a 235/50.

My question is: will a 235/50 tire fit on the factory 17" sport (5 spoke) rims? If so, will there be any rubbing?

Would there be any downsides to going wider as I am considering? I know that the tire would be slightly heavier so mpg may suffer slightly, but anything else?

Thx

ever 10mm increase you decrease the sidewall by 5% so 215/55 would be a 225/50
