I have 19' OEM tires, currently 23k on the car and 80% left in front tires and 60% left in rear. Is that good or bad?

My rear tires were shot by 18...almost completely bald on the inside. This was when I had my stock 17's on.....Been riding on my 20's for about a month now...we'll see how the tread holds up on my Vredestein Ultra C's.

If you had a tread indicator gauge (a few bucks at any auto parts store) you can check the rear center tread.(2/32 is the end of tire life) Don't check the outside tread as it will always be more. I would check the passenger side rear tire first as it will wear faster than the drivers side. If you don't have a gauge, just get on your knees and look for the wear bars and see if they are deeper or even with the tread. If they are even with the middle tread, it's the end. The front tires will last 25,000 miles. It is unrealistic to believe our cars will get 20,000+ miles out of the rears and have safe tires in all weather conditions.

Check your treadwear number on the side of the tire to give you a general idea.

My stock potenza's lasted 43K (both front and rear, majority freeway miles). The rear looked like slicks and my fronts were eaten so much on the inside Now I have Falken FK 452's (275/35/19 rear & 245/35/19 front)

Quote: If the owner is diligent to changing out the rear tires when the tread reaches the "wear bar", most tires will not go much further than 18,000 miles. Since our rear tires wear primarily in the middle treads, the visual inspection is deceiving, as the outer treads will wear slower and have more tread. Bottom line is, for all those that are getting those high numbers out of the rears is because you are going past the 2/32 mark of the wear bars and in actuality, the tires were not safe at that point.
very true, for mine, they started to get pretty bad around 17,500 miles, and infiniti said I only had about 2,500 miles left on the rears

but the front tires were still good, I had OEM 19's btw

That's why I bought Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Positions. 40,000 miles tread warranty. I even asked if it still covered my car, because I can't rotate the tires.

They said it didn't matter. After he saw my car, he said, "Honestly I doubt these tires will last you much longer than 20,000 miles"

He said if they wear out after 20,000 miles, they'll basically give me half my money back... I asked if he was ok with that. He said he didn't care, he said that's Bridgestone's problem, not his.

I've got about 10K miles on these Michelins and brake them loose all the time
but don't think I'll get more than 25K miles out of them. I'm running 35 lbs
all the way around and centers aren't wearing out.....Boco it's possible you're
running too much air in those rears since the centers are wearing out. Try
35 lbs in the rears and see if that helps. Just because the sidewall figures
tell you max lbs is 50 psi doesn't mean you should run that much.

I have the TR1's and after about 10K they are noisey as a ****. So bad I am thinking about getting better tires. I love their grip, but their road noise is worse than my HKS exhaust. I can't even hear the thing over their road noise.

I seriously have no idea why your tires only last you 10k, thats rediculous. That would be a set of tires every 7-8 months for me which would be unacceptable. My G had kumho's on it and the front are still fine but i'll need new rear tires by the end of the year and i'm really not looking forward to it.

Anyone try to find tires online? Would shipping be rediculously expensive? I'm a college student and between my car, bike, and other expenses I spend my money wisely.
