Pic Request: Sedans w/ wider-than-stock tires

Hi all,

As my OEM Turanza EL42s are nearing the end of their life (thankfully), I'm looking at new tires & sizes. Stock size was 215/55/17.

I want to go a bit wider, in the 225-235 range while keeping the OEM 5 spoke sport wheel on my '04 6mt sedan. I'll be going with a 225/50/17 (I know the diameter is slightly less) or a 235/50/17.

If anyone has made a change similar to this I would appreciate some shots to give me an idea of how the tires look on the rims.

Thanks!

IMO, 235 on a 17x7 is somewhat pushing it, I've got that setup on my winter wheel package, and the rear definetely has some bulge to it

yeah that's what i was thinking. the tire rep at TireTrends is recommending the 225/50/17 size and says it has proved popular with G owners. using the tire size calculator i see that some minor speedo error results from the switch, but not enough to cause concern.

You can check the specs section at www.tirerack.com to see which tires are made for various rim widths. 225 was the widest I can remmember fitting on stock 17x7 rims. You'll need to get wider rims if you want more than that.

Im running 225/50/17 on my stock sports and its great. I think they look perfect but my speedo is reading a tiny bit high. About 3 mph off at 75mph.

shouldn't make a difference if the tires are sized correctly

Mine is off less than ~0.7% with my 20's. A 245/35/20 and 275/30/20 is almost the exact same size as the oem tires.
