Measured the width of the stock 19's?

All this talk about fitting wider than spec'd tires on the stock 19's makes you wonder how some people get it done by most tire shops. Will they do it regardless of the safety factors? Any tire techs here want to shed some real expertise on this?

The last time I had the wheels off (for lowering) I got curious because the rears seemed so much wider than 8.5". I measured... The outside, from outer rim edge to edge is about 10". The tire mates to the rim at that edge and there is about 1/5 to 1/4 inch thickness there. So if I take off 1/2" total for the inside measurement, that makes it 9.5 inches. How can this be?

Anybody have a blank rim they can measure? Could this explain why wider tires actually do fit and as some said, fit well? What is the proper measurement of the rim, if not that?

idk much about wheels and tires, but i do know that if the tire is to wide it can just roll right of the rim so they dont fit to well

you measure inside rim edge to inside rim edge for wheels width, don't you?
