Opinions on wheel/tire package

If I do decide to autocross and then decide to go to R tires rather than the 245/45/17 Falken Azenis for street and auotcross, what do you think of the wheel/tire package below for the street?

Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position

Front: 225/45-18

Rear: 255/40-18

moda R6 Bright Silver Paint wheels

18x8 Front

18x9 Rear

wheels are a tad heavy at around 28-30 lbs, that's one issue

I've got an 03 6 speed without an LSD, so the rear end gets loose fairly easily, i'm thinking the wider rear tires will help, plus i like the look of different size front to back...

Re: Opinions on wheel/tire package

If you're getting a second set of rims for autocross, concern yourself more for the weight than for the looks of them. They'll only be on the car about 1 day a month, and nobody at the track will car how they look, but they'll laugh if they hear you have 30lb rims. Smaller is better... go 17's if you don't have the Brembos, or 18's if you must.. but you can find 16-17lb 17's and 18-20lb 18's.

Autocross on your street tires for awhile, though, until you get used to the car. No point in wasting the money until you've done it a few times and decide it's worth it.

The 18's would be for the street only.

I'd run r tires for autocross on the stock rims to stay in the stock class...

The thing about stock class is that you can run aftermarket rims.. as long as they're the same size, width, and within 1/4" of the offset of the stock rims. Just FYI.

Yeah I know about the rule on wheels, thanks though...

My thinking is, if I have 2 sets of wheels, might as well have a sweet set for the street.

If going all out for autocross, I'd agree that getting super lightweight wheels with an offset to take advantage of the rule would be the way to go, but i'm thinking more along the line of putting r tires on the stock wheels for autoX and some sweet looking 18's for the street...

That's also a good option. I admit, a part of me finds it hard to justify blowing $1000 on rims that will only be used about 10-20 days a year.

I hear ya! You've got to be national level competitive and really into the sport to justify it, i'm not quite there...

I like street tires for autocross, cuz i'm lazy and don't want to swap for each event.

But I but to try R tires and I want a sweet set of street rims to set my car apart from the crowd

decisions, decisions...

Yeah.. I figure I gotta be closer than 5-6 seconds behind the local DS winners before car upgrades matter at all.
