Help: Brake issues

could anyone offer advice on this issue:
I own a 2003 G35 sedan that now has 12k miles. I am experiencing multiple brake issues and have brought my car into the dealer 3 times to be repaired. they explained that the brakes on this car will need to be replaced every 10-15k miles. well, i just brought my car in two weeks ago to have the front brakes replaced, only to end up with more screeching. I contacted infiniti and they say this is normal. this doesn't seem normal and i'm getting fed up-- any advice is much appreciated.

Re: Help: Brake issues

Did they turn the rotors when they replaced the pads?

Did they mention "bedding" the new pads?

Lastly, did they replace the shiny metal shims that clip over the new pads? I have noticed that without those shims, the breaks will squeal like crazy at slow speeds.

Re: Help: Brake issues

thank you--
they replaced the rotors, but there was no mention of "bedding".
I am a bit ignorant in this area, but it seems that the squeal is not something normal for a new car. I just don't know what to do.

Re: Help: Brake issues

thank you for the link, austinteddy. I am aware of the latest warranty in the US, i just don't want this to be a recurring issue that my bank account will have to deal with after three years. Is it possible for me to change/replace my brakes with something of a more durable quality?

Yes. Look in the Tire/Wheels forum. There is a lot of discussion of alternate brake pad choices -- lower dust, less squeal, longer life.

I think there is also some compound you can apply to the brakes not to squeal...

Re: Help: Brake issues

I feel your pain on this matter. I have over 31,000 miles on my 2003 Sedan.

I'm going tomorrow to have them done for the second time.

Was your first replacement before the warranty came out, I'm assuming so unless you realy drive a lot! Can you post any comments about the new brake job afterwards? Thanks!

Whatever you do, once the warranty expires, do not go to the dealer for brakes, find a good shop in your town and have them redo your brakes with a better wearing pad! I am still hoping Infiniti will be using a better wearing pad for the warranty replacement, but who knows!

Re: Help: Brake issues

Thanks for everyone's input. I have been twice for brakes and squealing is still apparent-- not when the car is cold and it happens when my foot isn't even on the brake. I will not accept their explanation that this is normal. I am covered under the warranty, have 12k miles on my car and have been in three times-- completely unacceptable. I am doing some more research on the issue and will come to some resolve- I understand that nissan brakes squeal and such, but it shouldn't be something that i just have to choke on-- how difficult can it be to use reliable standard brakes?

Re: Help: Brake issues

I had my back brake pads replaced at about 10,000 miles for squeaking. Had my front pads and rotors replaced at about 17,000 miles under the new warranty. Backs used to squeak and the new front ones squeaked for a little while. Haven't heard them squeaking in the last couple of months..
