Do I need to keep same brand of tires on for the front and rear?
Well, after taking my car in for service, I found out that my rear passenger tire needs to be replaced (almost bald) while I have plenty of tread on my front tires (I had them both replaced at 4k miles since I had a flat on one of the front tires).
I've been trying to figure out what kind of tires to replace the rear and whether I have to replace the fronts. I have an '05 coupe with the Bridgestones and I would prefer to move to Toyo's or perhaps something all season.
Now, the question is...do I need to replace the front tires as well to match the brand? I know the tread's going to be different but I'm not entirely sure how that would affect things...I'm guessing road noise and perhaps water...

Each tire in the same size has a dozen or so parameters that are different, luckily in the same class and speed rating things don't vary more than +-10% except possibily wet braking distances and durability.
Mix and matching a 200 treadware index with a 400 index might yield some interesting emergency handling and braking or under vs over steer in differnt directions. Just as A/S on front and Summer in rear might handle weirdly.

I had the Falkens F452 on the rear and the Michelin Sports PS2 on the front on the stock 19s. Only complaint is when I had two different tires the road noise was just horrible.

This happened to me. One of my rear Toyos blew out. So I needed two new rears pronto. The tires only had ~12,000 miles on them. And the fronts were not worn at all. The place I get tires from does not have Toyos in stock...they have to be ordered. So I got the Nitto Neo-Gens they do have in stock. Braking and turns/curves are no problem at all. But the ride is rough. Frankly, it might be just the fault of the Nitto's....I'm not a fan at all.
Anyway, the front Toyos went about 26,000 and are finally starting to wear on the inside part of the tire. The rear Nitto's are getting pretty bald on the inside after only 13,000 miles.
The ride was much better with all four new Toyos.
