Mich. Pilot Sport Tires

Is it me or are these tires very noisy. Anybody switch brands yet, which ones? Louder, quieter, let us know.

Re: Mich. Pilot Sport Tires

its been debated on bimmerforums.com for years. every poll taken has the S03's besting in performace over ANY tire. in my opinion theyre better on wet surfaces too. the only downside is the price, i call them $03's.

Re: Mich. Pilot Sport Tires

Actually the SO3's are a hell of a lot cheaper than the Michelin Pilot Sports...I just replaced my stock pilot sports in the rear with SO3's and I like them...They seem to handle pretty much the same..a little stiffer side wall but i like it...The only draw back is that they are noisier..but not by much....The stock pilot sports were quieter..But I saved about $200 just on the rear pair by going with the SO3's and the performance is similar...maybe a bit better with the SO3's!! Plus the Treadwear on the SO3's is supposed to last longer..that was the major deciding factor on my gettin these as replacements for pilots sports since I only got 12k outta my stock ones.

what size did you get? 17s or 18s? 18s were about $260 each from what I recall.

Tirerack rates the GOODYEAR EAGLE F1 GS-D3 as the best performance tire, and it is cheaper than the S03 and the Pilot.

Re: Mich. Pilot Sport Tires

for some reason...i've never liked goodyears...

probably because of the HORRIBLE goodyear RS-A's that were on my eclipse...Quite possibly the worst tire ever. But that really means nothing since these are probably better...so i'll shut up now..

The michelin pilot sports in that size were I believe $268 or $288 per tire I believe at costco.

Re: Mich. Pilot Sport Tires

Not sure if you guys have heard of the pilot sport PS2 tires...These are very new and i believe they will eventually replace the regular pilot sport tires. They dont have them in our sizes yet..but im sure they will soon...Hopefully my tires will last long enough for me to try those out. They are supposedly better than every tire on the market currently, but i dont know what they will cost in our sizes. We shall see.

Re: Mich. Pilot Sport Tires

IMO the SO-3's are far superior in performance to the stock Pilots. It's true they are a little harsher, louder, and a bit heavy. However, the wet/dry traction and corning exceed the stock Pilots. The Michelin's are more luxury riding and smoother, so it depends on your desired results. On my M3(replaced by my Gcoupe) I have had both Pilot Sports and S0-3's. My experience has been the S0-3's are superb performance tires. Although, I will be upgrading my wheels and tires on my G coupe and will give the GOODYEAR EAGLE F1 GS-D3 a try. As was mentioned before, I have never been a fan of Goodyear's, but the reviews of the GS-D3's have me intrigued.

Re: Mich. Pilot Sport Tires

I'll be going with a set of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's on my 19" gram lights. Supposedly these are the new "Best tires on the market." (They got better ratings than the S0-3's) The only thing I am concerned about is tread wear, but guess I will find out and let everyone know.
