VOLKS: GT-S Vs SF-Challenge

Well, my gt-s finally arrived after waiting nearly 3 months, but i'm not sure if i want to keep them or trade/sell them for a new Sf-challenge. Obviously, I ordered the gt-s(still in box) b/c they look badass with the huge lip and all(I got the titanium GM 19in,+17,+18 with no tires) and they're a favorite among Z/G owners even though I haven't seen any(volk) where I live.

It just seems recently that a lot of gt-s owner are not happy with them for some reason and some even prefer to go back to the SF-challenge. I was not familiar with the SF until recently after doing a lot of research and looking up many pictures with G/Z that sports them...and boy they look just as good if not better then the GT-S. Here's what I came up with for the pro's and con's of each...

GT-S
pros:
matte finish option(blk,gunmetal)
5in lip (aggressive offset)
clean looking

Cons:
Hard to clean b/c of the lip(Z forum)
plain looking/very little details
-----------------------------------------------
SF-Challenge
pro:
Very detail and more bling factor
4in lip (still aggressive IMO)
BLk looks better then BLK GT-S(IMO)

Cons:
look smaller then it really is(b/c of the hash detail, or whatver you call it.LOL)
A little busy looking and not as clean(same reason as above)

Well, I need your guys help to decide if I should keep my GT-S or get the SF-Challenge. I have an 07 DG G coupe that is basically stock except i'm dropped on a g tein s-tech springs. Once I get my wheels situation all figured out, I will get rolling again. Thanks everyone....

I have the challenges and I think that one of the cons you listed about the rim being really "busy" is one of the pros to me. I would say it looks very "sporty" instead of busy though. The lip factor is the only thing that I would say may be missing from the challenges, but there is enough there. I've seen the GTS and like them a lot, and trading my challenges for the GTS has crossed my mind because of the shorter lip, but I decided against it because I like the sporty detail of my rims, and it isn't worth me spending a lot of money on trading to rims that look similar. I've been on my sfc's for almost 3 years now, so the used value of them will be low, especially since I've refinished the lip on mine.

That being said, you have a VERY nice set of wheels there. You'll be happy with them if you put them on your car. I've parked my car next to a G with GTS and it is a toss up.

EDIT- After I posted that, I was thinking, what other body work are you planning to do on the car and what rim do you think would look better with it? I only have a nismo diffuser and a OEM lip and a moderate drop, and I think the detail of the SFC's on my car give it a nice accent for having not much body work.

EvolutionGSR, thanks a lot for the reply, it really helps a lot. As for body mod, i'm going for a very clean look(hence the cleaner looking gt-s). I already got an N1 front lip laying around and will order a side kirt soon(kenstyle). I will leave almost everything else stock. I agree, you can look at the more detailed SF-challenge as more sporty...thats why its so hard to decide.

I'm looking to keep my rims for a long time so if I needed to trade I better do it when the value is still high to get a fair trade, and at the same time it must be the rim i'm happy with. Its unfortunate, that I've never seen the sf-challenge in person since i'm sure it would look way better. If anyone sportin one near the chicago land area, let me come take a look and it would be nice to see any kind of Volks rollin. No offense to anyone that lives where I live, but most of the import guys have cheap immitation rims such as konigs,katanas,..etc.

the busyness is a pro to me too for the SFs.

The hash marks makes the rim look awesome when its moving

Damn, I need to see it roll, but the the 5in lip of the gt-s looks just as sick seeing how deep in the spokes are....almost makes the whole rims looked chrome when rollin.

Hey Kyosho, what are the specs to your SF-Challenges?

Are your BBK's bigger than those of the DG with the GT-S?

.

Awesome pic Kyosho,! Didn't realized both looked soo similar. So what is your opinion on the two wheels since you got a good look at them both? I also would like to know how hard or easy is it to clean those hash details? I was a little worried that dirt would get stuck in them little crevecis in the hash.

I think that pic sealed the deal; if I can't get a hold of some LE37T's, then its the Challenges for sure. I thought about the GT-S', but after seeing that picture... the challenges are superior in looks. It definately looks more "busy".

Cal, typical as in 19x9.5 fronts +22 & 19.10.5 rears +22?

.

9.5/10.5, yes.

+22/+22 is not typical for challenges as far as i know - i could be wrong though. i think they are usually +28/+23 and i'm almost certain that is what gene is running.

That hash area is the easy part to clean, since its not the polished part, take a wet rag and wipe it across then wipe down with some pressure on it. That gets 98% of whatever is on it off.

I am running the rotora 8-pot front but even the Baer 6-pot bbk is just massive. It doesn't help that part of my bbk is hidden by the extra hash ring on the rim either lol. the hash area isnt that hard to clean... like evo said just wipe down hard and you'll get to the harder parts.

like calvin said, the rim specs are 9.5/10.5 +28f +23 rear.

I wasn't the fan of the gt-s at all when it came out (one of my friends had the first set of gunmetal in the US). Like most say, they are a little on the plain side. I'll post a pic of the rim WITHOUT a bbk and you'll see. On the other hand, I didn't go with drilled and slotted rotors on mine because the rim itself already looks too complicated, and I was afraid I'd overdo it. The gt-s has grown a little on me though, especially because of that fat rear lip.

the difference is huge.. see below

i think this first one might sway you back just a little bit busy!!:

see what I mean? and here's the full pic of the one i posted for a better idea:

i have TONS more just ask

GTS with a massive BBK looks better. Without one, there's too much empty space. Without a BBK the SFChallenge looks better than the GTS since the details fill the empty space.
