Effects of bigger rims...

Im thinking about getting either 19s or 20s on my 04 G. Right now im running on the stock 18".
I was just wondering how much it will effect the perfomance, such as the VCD, handling, cornering, or even take off speed. The engine is stock also by the way.

Id say it would depend on the type of wheel you bought and what it was made of. You should be able to research the weight of each different type of wheel you're interested in. You should also be able to get the stock weight of your wheels, although I don't know what it is.

If I had to guess... I would say you won't notice any difference with 19's, but 20's you might. Theoretically, the larger diameter wheel you have the slower accleration will be, but top speed would increase. If you really care about accleration, speed and weight, downgrade to 17"

Handling may improve a bit with a bigger wheel, but that is more dependant on the tires you're running. A good quality tire makes a big difference. Just increasing the wheels size shouldn't mess with your VDC. If you added spaceers and lowered it, that would significantly increase the chances of your VDC acting up.

Good luck

as long as you keep your overall diameter close to stock, there shouldn't be any "effects". Bigger rims = smalle profile tires. If you buy high quality wheels, they are likely to be around stock weight or even less if they are forged thus not affecting much of performance at all if not improve. Search on more details, this questions is a bit broad.

thats most likely due to the heavier weight of the new 20's. It's inevitable unless you spend your money on some top dollar 3 piece forged wheels.

yes, since your wheels are what your brakes has to stop, more weight = more work. your brake pads will wear out faster and your braking distance will worsen.

You will also have rougher ride if you increase your wheel diameter. Frankly I like it much more, but you will notice the difference. I think everybody else has summed up what you should expect.

I love my 19s alot more than my chrome 20s I had! They are even lighter than my stock wheels. 19 inch tires will cost you alot more though, something to think about................

you can see them on my ride, just click on my sig.
