Tire wear question?

On rear wheel drive like G35 what is the tire wear pattern?
Is it similar to FWD that front tires wear much faster than the rear
Thanks

Re: Tire wear question?

Nope. They're going to wear more evenly than a FWD car.

In FWD, the front tires are steering and pulling the car, and the back tires are just along for the ride.

In RWD, the front tires are steering, and the back tires are pushing, so all the tires are doing some of the work.

However, the front and rear tires won't wear exactly the same. Assuming your alignment and tire pressures are okay, the front tires tend to wear on the outside a little from the turning forces, and the rear tires tend to wear in the middle. It's still good to rotate them to maintain even wear. Unless, of course, you have a coupe and the front and rear tires are different sizes.

Re: Tire wear question?

Well that is what i was assuming but thanks for your explanation.

I bought my car used so it already has some miles and I am not sure about its tire rotation and balancing history.
Currently the front has about 7/16 tread left where as rear has about 5/16 left.
I am thinking about getting wheel balancing and rotation done and so wondering if I should leave them as is or rotate.
I want to get even wear so I change all 4 at the same time.

Re: Tire wear question?

It's probably not necessary to rebalance the wheels unless you're experiencing some sort of problem, like a vibration at highway speeds.
