Speedometer adjustment for new tires...

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here knows the process to get the speedometer adjusted on a 2003 G35 sedan? I just got some new tires and the speedometer is off a bit and I'd like to get it corrected.

When I asked the local Infiniti dealership I received the following responses, "It can't be done" (yeah, right), "We can't do it because the process requires a dyno and we don't have one" (???), and "You don't want to have that done because it requires we change out the pinion gears in the wheel speed sensors and it is just too expensive" (do I REALLY sound that stupid?).

I thought it was just a matter of feeding the correct informationto the car's computer with the dealer's interface computer (can't remember the name of it). Anyway, any quick responses with how this can be done would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Scott

The device is the Consult II. At least on Nissan dealer's Consult II (I knwo that they can theoreticaly have different program cards - so the inifinit's cards could be different) does NOT have an option ot adjust the speedo.

No electronic control for speedometer? I have to admit to finding it hard to believe that, in this day of automotive software control, where just about EVERYTHING in the car is controlled via software, that the speedometer is controlled mechanically/with fixed values.

Surely this is a mistake?

The new tire size is 225/45-17 and has thrown off the speedometer enough to get me a warning today because my mental speedometer "adjustment" calculation was off.

no
the speedo is electonicall controlled. What I was saying is that you cannot adjust the speedo (make it faster/slower) with the Consult II when you get diferent sizer tires/wheels.

gurgenpb,

Yeah, I realize that is what you were saying, I was just expressing my frustration/disbelief that Infiniti would do something like that. There must be a way, just that it is not published.

It's not something that dealerships will typically do. Odometers are regulated devices, and it would open them up to lawsuits for inaccurate/falsified odometer readings.
