Tire question

I just bought a set of '07 G35 coupe wheels for my '04 sedan, as well as tires to go along with them. On tirerack.com, it says for the front the tires should be 225/40/19, and on the rear 245/40/19. I was talking to my buddy that runs a local auto shop before I bought the tires, and he said I could put 235/35's on the front instead of 225/40 and then go ahead with 245/40's on the rear and that would be fine. i didn't give this much thought until now, after i've bought a pair of each and after putting them next to eachother i've realized the 245/40's are a good size bigger than the 235/35's and i'm just trying to understand all this. will the 235/35's even fit on the wheels? and what is the difference between the 235/35's and 225/40's if i were to have gotten those? the only reason i bought the 235/35's was because i found a really good deal on them ($75 each, brand new toyo t1r's) and my friend said they'd work. i trust him but i'm still confused.

sorry for the noobish questions, tire sizes are one thing that i don't understand. is my car going to look like it's lifted in the rear now that those tires are a bit bigger or what? and if you could, list your tire configuration if you have 19's just so i have something to compare it to. pics would help also. thanks!

If they are 19 inch, they will fit on the rim. The 235/35 has a diameter of 25.48 inches. The 225/40 has a diameter of 26.09 inches. So, the 225 is about 2 inches bigger in circumference - that would mean, with your new tires, your speedometer will show 60 when you are actually going 58.6. No big deal really. The thing that will really bite you is the offset. Coupe rear tire offsets are much less than Sedans. A 245 in the rear should be OK, but any wider and you could be in trouble.

so the 235/35 is a lower profile than the 225/40? would that be awkward with 245/40's on the back? i'm just confused because the back tires are a good size bigger than the fronts, and i dont want the car to have a leaning-forward stance

if you dont want that then go with 245/40/19 front and rear
