245/35/19 = 25.8"/654.1mm - a difference of .5"/14.2mm

so in this case 245/40/19 are closer to OEM diameter than 245/35/19

Edit: I just realized your calculations are the same as mine... how do you figure 40 series in not closer to OEM diameter than 35??? You listed the difference and indicated implied that it is not??? It doesn’t matter if it’s taller of shorter when the statement was referencing “closer”

Yeah, you quoted me before I had a chance to edit.

I am just trying to figure things out on this but I think that a taller rolling height(245/40) will increase the final drive and cause the car to accelerate a bit slower. It might have higher top speed if power is there, but who cares about that.
I think given this and the clearance issues with the rear fenders, the 245/35 will not rub; plus, it will enable the car not to lose too much acceleration...especially given that the wheels and tires are lighter than the 17s and that we ignore the rotational inertia factor(how far mass is from center). Plus the 35 aspect looks better and probably handles better, even though ride quality is down.

I doubt the miniscule diameter will have much effect on acceleration… I have shorter gears so for me it isn’t going to matter - however speedo will be slightly off (non-issue with either size)... as for looks, I agree 35 is good (and preferred by most) - as far as handling, I'm not certain one is any better than the other necessarily... I've had people say a little more sidewall is actually better for handling... I primarily drag race so as for running with street tires the extra rubber is good.

Everyone has their own needs... and evaluation of sizes is tedious at best... Gdupsedan and ttrank have been insightful for me to determine what fits - but since several choices are "Good" choices, it depends on what characteristics the individual is looking for.

I happen to like the idea of filling the wheel well out a little (overall not just top from lowering)… also, even though you stated the added mm won’t save wheels from potholes, at over $600 per wheel every little bit helps IMO.

but my initial response of 40 being closer than 35 to OEM was only in response to someone’s question about it... certainly not to say that everyone should use 40 instead of 35.

hey, thanks for responding, your facts and opinions definitely help me. I am learning alot about various fitments to accomplish different things...from using a 35 series for looks and function; the functional part being the prevention of rubbing(hopefully 100% ) on rear fender lips on a sedan + 19" coupe whls + prokit setup.

anyway thanks again and my comments on acceleration being affected by taller setups is just theory, especially since the diff. is negligible.

Staggered rays 19" on a G35x ??

Yes i know, you are not supposed to put staggered wheels on an AWD car. the physics make sense. But im kinda stuck with them and would like to use them.

Ive spoke to quiet a few of my friends who are complete car freaks and they told me as long as the outside diameter (rim+tire) is the same, it should not matter that the back wheels are .5 wider. Yes these are the ones from the coupe. Got them for only a grand. Great condition.

Judging by seeing others on these posts, it seems like these rims, if using the right tire size, should fit on my car no problem, hopefully i wont need to roll the fenders and hopefully wont throw off my ECU/ABS. My car is not lowered.

so what size should i use all around? im thinking 245/40/19? or is 235/40/19 better?

Opinions...
