playing with the car in the rain.... donuts, bad for tires?
Ok so obviously attempting a donut on the dry pavement will eat away tires, same thing with burnouts. I was bored after work and the parking lot was empty, so i decided to see what the G could do... i didnt push the car to the limits but i just played with it a bit, not something im going to do again for a WHILE! Just trying to learn the limits of the car so i know how to handle every day driving situations and such. So i VDC on and tried to do a donut, the car kept control perfectly and let me regain, i was very impressed! (VDC will ALWAYS be left on after this little "test")
I turned VDC off and the car slid like crazy, the whole car went into a spin. scary yet fun at the same time... so i regained control quickly and was impressed at how well the G can grab traction once lost. My "VDC OFF" light was stuck on and the "SLIP" light stayed on until i restarted the car. Typical, right?
What i was wondering is.... how bad is that for my tires? I was weary about doing this because tires run about $300 each (19"s) and i was curious if messing around in the rain like this would hurt the tires or do minimal wear where nothing would be noticeable in the long run? Also, does this mess up the suspension at all if done occasionally, or is it fine? Just trying to learn the limits of the car since im not used to so much power.... Im used to a 130 horsepower focus hatchback lol
Thanks for your help/assistance!

Three things:
(1) It isn't typical for the "VDC off" light and SLIP light to stay on until you restart the car, at least not in my experience.
(2) This obviously isn't good for your tires, but it isn't as bad as dry pavement. Less friction due to the wet conditions would obviously result in less wear than in a condition with more friction (e.g. dry).
(3) Anytime you're adding force to your suspension in a way that it wasn't meant to be applied (laterally at this many G's while doing donuts), it could potentially harm it.
All that having been said you should be OK if you don't do this very often. Also, I'm glad to hear of someone learning the limits of their car in a semi-controlled environment. It could save your life in the future.

i had the slip and vdc off light stay on when i did a set of donuts. i was pretty concerned but i restarted vehicle and it was fine.
either way tires will wear. i have heard (this was a long time ago from i dont know who and has no credibility what-so-ever just throwing it out there to see if anyone has heard the same) that one second of burn out (full wheel spin not just chirping) is equal to about 100miles off your tires. 10 seconds=1000miles pretty much. seemed pretty reasonable

my car did donuts and spun on the interstate one time during a down pour on I 10... I was only going like 30 mph in the slow lane and no one else was near me.. I guess i hit a deep puddle in the ruts from big rigs and sent me spinning.. i tried to get it back but there was no saving it... i did 3 full 360s and ended with my rear end in the median and front end facing wrongway but on shoulder... btw my car stalled after the 2nd 360, when i restarted the car it took 3 tries and my slip and vdc light stayed on maybe for 10 secs but went off right after i got going again... was scary but fun..... i had bald, very bald rear tires.. never again

Haha tree huggers suuuuuuuuck
whenever i do donuts in my G, the slip light and the vdc off light stay on till i restart my car, i dont think there is anything to worry about, except of course killing penguins by causing global warming....... when shooting them is sooo much more fun
