tires for sedan

I need to replace the tires on my wife's sedan. It's a daily commuter for her so I don't need anything fancy. The oems are 205/65/16 Turanzas. That is the only choice at that size at Tire Rack. I don't want Turanzas again. What other sizes can I go with for the 16 inch rim? There are some good choices at 205/55/16 or 215/60/16. Will either of those two sizes fit on the stock 16 inch rim? Is one size better to go with than the other? Any info would be helpful.
thanks

Re: tires for sedan

The 205/55/16 is way too small (6.1%) and the 215/60/16 isn't too bad ( only1.3% smaller).

But my suggestion is to go 225/60/16... total wheel diameter is just 0.1 inches larger, a 0.5% difference, so the effect on the speedo is almost negligible. It's a wider tire with a proportionately shorter (and likely stiffer) side wall so (in general) should be safer (better handling). And there's a slew of tires to choose from in that size.

And since you said nothing fancy... check tirerack and search for a touring tire rather than a performance tire, prices are better this way.

Good luck!

Re: tires for sedan

go invest in some 17" rims. stock sedan ones are on ebay all the time, sometimes go for less than 400.00

I wouldn't go with 17" rims unless you really wanted to. The tires for the 17" rims are, on average, twice the cost of the tires for the 16" rims.

Chinee's suggestions are good. Infiniti officially says that 225 is the widest you can go on the front axle, but we have many members running 235 and even 245 without problems. Both his 225/60R16 and tirerack's recommendation of 216/60R16 provide a decent selection.

I noticed the Turanza LS-V as one of the choices.. and thought I'd just point out that it's not going to be the same tire as the oem Turanza EL42 you have now. OEM tires generally aren't as good as retail tires. Just something to think about.

The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S is in there as well. They're a bit more expensive, but I haven't heard anything bad about them. The Kumho KH11 is supposed to be fairly decent, especially compared to the stock Turanzas, and quite a bit cheaper.

Read through the tirerack reviews. Use their comparisons. Since it's a daily commuter, focus on comfort, noise, and tread life, just making sure that dry & wet traction don't suck.

Re: tires for sedan

TireRack said that 235/50R17 is fine for a G35 sedan - I have the Michelins so I know it's true.

I agree with chinee. The best would be to go for the 225/60-16. Lots of choices in that size and reasonably priced. That's actually the size I went with for my winter tires (Blizzak LM-18s)
