I just bought an '05 G35 Coupe 6mt and will be tracking it several times this coming summer. Unfortunately, tires for the oem 19's are not cheap. Thus I am looking for some dedicated track wheels.
How small of wheels can I go? Would 16" or 17" wheels fit on the car? TireRack only lists 18"+ sized wheels and they start at ~$110/wheel plus tires. Could someone help me determine if the sedan or coupe 17" wheels would fit on the car? If not, why?
I don't want to have to spend $600-$700 for a set of tires every summer for a few track day.

How about some stock 17" coupe wheels?
You can get some for CHEAP and put on some track tires.

I was really hoping those would fit. the offset is the same, are there any other fitment issues I should worry about?

PM CrazyG......I think he's running Tenzo M's. Light weight, great for the track and light.

17" wheels are the smallest you are going to fit over the stock brake calipers. As for track wheels, I wouldn't look for the cheapest wheel you can find because most likely they are going to be heavy and have poor width/offsets. Some good wheels that are fairly cheap, light and decent quality, which would be good for the track are 5zigen fno1rc's, most of the enkei line-specifically the rpf1's, some tenzo's, rotas etc. Another good option would be 350z track wheels, 18" forged made by rays.
By cheapest I meant least expensive, I only road course once or twice a year, so it's not worth it to spend big bucks for a set of wheels/tires.
