will all-season tires help in the winter?

i am in binghamton, NY now and the weather is pretty bad up here at bing during the winter months (late october - beg of april). i need winter tires or all-season tires as i have my summer stockies on my car now.

i dont want to switch my tires constantly or throw sand bags in my trunk.

i dont want to give up too much performance

any comments much appreciated.

they'll help but dedicated snow tires will be best - but goodyear triple treads aren't a bad all season tire.

I put the Goodyear Triple Treads on my wifes' G20....They do work great, but its front wheel drive.
If I were you, I would go with dedicated Snows.....You would not believe the difference in traction/performance. Since you live in an area where snow is more consistent, I think you will find them invaluable.
