Dear mods: i know i posted this same thread in the G35 Coupe General forum but i did that in case some members dont read the wheels section and this is a very important issue to me so please dont move the other thread, thank you very much.

I cant belive the Michelin Pilot sports are 1200 bucks, that is so expensive. I only have 9400 miles on my coupe and i already need 4 new tires, mostly due the launches and fast cornering. I really dont want to pay 1200 bucks every year for new tires, So my questions are:

Just how important are the Pilots in relation to the cars performance? I'm guessing they help a lot...

What tires, if any, are comprable (sp?) to the Pilots? Keeping in mind the cost.

If i get lesser performance based tires, will safety be comprimised?? ie: in case i have to swerve out of the way of another car. ie2: will going 120-140 be way MORE dangerous than it already is?

Anyone with any experience in this area please respond to a fellow G owner. Any opinions or comments will be greatly appriciated. Thank you all in advance.

I'd say not very...since my opinion on the Michelin's is that they are total crap. But i couldn't give you and statistics to back that up.

I will say that if you think Michelin's ended up on the coupe because they are the best performing tire, or make the car handle the best you are crazy. Coupe has Michelin's for 1 reason only.....Infiniti got a deal on them from Michelin.

<hr></blockquote> alot of people are putting on Bridgestone SO3's and seem to be happy with them. I hear they make the stock 18" coupe sizes. I have also heard good things about goodyears, but they do not offer the stock 18" sizes (yet)...so you would have to go to a different size.

i would seriously doubt it..... search the internet for Michelin tires and blowouts. The huge number of consumer complains about Michelin tires is not good....and their "warranty service" is basically non existant.

Actually, the pilot sports are one fo the better performing tires out except they take some time to warm up. However, they are a bit pricey and you can find something better in the same price range. Many people buy the potenza's but I think they are a bit heavier than the michelin's therefore i'm not going to go that route myself (was thinking about replacing my pilots with s-03s but that has since changed). I will probably get BFGoodrich's or Toyo's as my next replacement
