245/45 17 on stock 2003 G Sedan? Will it work?
245/45 17 on stock 2003 G Sedan? Will it work?
Hi guys,
I've searched far and wide on this and many other forums and couldn't find much to chew on, so I thought I'd just ask here.
I've got a 2003 G sedan w/ stock 17" non-sport rims. I have been running Firestone Wide Ovals in 235/50 17s for a while with no problems at all, but it's time for new tires and I don't really like the 235 selection at the price point I'm looking for. I can actually get 245s cheaper than 235s!
So, my question is: will 245/45 17s work on the stock rims without issues? Right now, I just need new rear tires (fronts have good tread left), but I have not been able to find out much useful info if people are using this size of tire on the 17" rim with success? Has anyone here run this size and how has it worked for you? Any problems? Also, would this size work for the fronts too without rubbing?
Help is very greatly appreciated!!
Regards,
Mike

use this calculator: http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp
235/50-17 is 10mm closer to the suspension. 245/45-17 will be 15mm closer - you may rub. you'll also have a fairly big case of bulging tires. get in there with measuring tape or something and see how much room you have between the tire and the suspension.
otherwise, you could get 18" sedan wheels for ~$700-800 with tires - that's the route i went on my car (had sport 17" OEM wheels, went to 19x8.5/19x9.5 aftermarket, then back to sport 18" OEM), and have been pretty happy with it.
