Re: Lambo Doors

So if your definition of rice is:

Doing something to your car to make it look or seem or feel like something that costs more and is a better car that you can't afford......

THEN

Anyone that does engine mods to get faster but can't afford a faster car is rice???
Anyone that lowers their car or puts sway bars and strut bars to stiffen the car and make it handle like an SLR or ENZO is rice???

Come on now....if you're going to apply it to lambo door conversions ... can't be a double standard ... gotta apply it to everything. So be careful of how you describe rice.

I don't like the lambo door conversions personally...they do open weird and getting in an out is a hassle. But it does look cool when open.

Re: Lambo Doors

I think the term "rice" is subjective........
any modification to improve any area of one's car is just that an improvement, be it better gas mileage or handling etc...

I think it becomes more subjective when its a cosmetic enhancement more than a productive modification.....

Do I like those giant chrome/stainless mufflers, not particularly.....do they improve the performance, probably
is that "rice"? I would say no.
if that same muffler had a neon glow inside of it, I would say its more tacky than "rice"
Once again everything becomes subjective regarding cosmetics....what I like maybe you don't and vice-versa

would I put the front nose emblem of the SLR on my car because I can't afford the real thing? Would you?

I have installed clear corners on my car....they are JDM parts but not US design....thats cosmetic, or is it "rice"

I by no means use a double standard....once again its all very subjective....and no two people would describe that word the same.....

By the way, if I'm not mistaken, the term "rice" started back in the late 80's by Harley Davidson owners to describe the Japanese bikes of that era, ie "rice rocket" meaning they run on Saki rather than gasoline.
how it transcended to describe every out of the ordinary looking car is beyond me....

Re: Lambo Doors

Let me help alleviate the problem. Most of us buy things to make the car perform BETTER. Correct?

The Civics with fart can exhaust weren't made for PERFORMANCE. When the designers of the the 350GT were doing the car, they MIGHT have had performance in mind... Adding aluminum double wishbone suspension, 280hp engine..

But a CIVIC? That's what we call an ECONOMY CAR. Think about it. The LX Civics with "performance" noise maker exhausts you see that REDUCE actual HP? Vtech stickers that add 15rwhp on a front wheel drive car. They don't deserve to be on the road. That's rice.

Re: Lambo Doors

I think it would look good on a highly modified or show car, but not an otherwise stock car.

Re: Lambo Doors

My vote is Rice.

I saw this mod on a 350Z and it looked neat, but still has a very poser impression.

The real problem is that it makes entry and exit very difficult. You have to line up and kind of side-step in. Not something I want to train my passengers to do for a $2000 fluff mod.

Re: Lambo Doors

We've got the pictures are in the process of thumbnailing them and posting them. Should be up in a few hours, at most. There was some confusion as the pics were sent to my bro and he deleted them thinking they were a virus the first time. Sorry for the delay, but they will be up soon.

Re: Lambo Doors

It's okay for show cars and it turns heads, but have you ever tried to get in/ out of a conversion? You have to twist your body -- it's awkward and would probably be a pain in a daily driver.

If you look at the MacLaren, the doors swing up and out, whereas in a conversion, the door ends up canted upward but not much outwards, so it's still partially blocking the front of the opening. They're engineered totally differently from those of Lambo's and supercars.

I'd use that money for something else!
