18" Michelin Pilot Sport Tires

Hey guys, forgive me if this question has come up before, I didn't really see it and I am new to the forum.

Has anyone replaced the OEM Michelin Pilot Sport tires on their car? If so, did you have any trouble matching them and ordering them? Was it a regular tires store or what?

I had my rear tire blowout @ 90 mph on the freeway today. Don't know why, never saw anything in the road. Tire held together and rim is okay as is the car. But the tire is toast and America's tire is telling me this is the 4th Coupe they have had in since January with the same problem. That really concerns me.

And they said the Pilot Sport's on the Coupe as OEM are a different tread compound and tread pattern than the standard off the shelf Pilot Sport's and that the tire we have is not yet available to the public and Michelin is backordered on anyway.

I'm trying to figure out if they are just BS'ing me to get me to buy two new rear tires or what. I need a new tire though cause this damn spare ain't made for driving around on very much.

Thanks.

Get a second opinion. Call up TireRack.com and maybe some other local store that stocks Michelin's and ask.

I'd be inclined to believe the part about the OEM tires being different. The Sedans have a tire size that you can't find anything other than the OEM choices in right now, nobody else makes them yet, and only the G35 Sedan / Altima / Maxima / I35 use them.

On another note, if they're telling you they've had four coupes with blowouts on that model tire, I'd be inclined to go ahead and buy two new rear tires to get away from what sounds like a bad production run of tires.

How many miles are on it? Michelin out to have some sort of warranty on the tire for blowing out that early, probably in the form a a pro-rated (based on remaining tread depth) rebate on a replacement tire.

Yeah, that sounds a little spooky. OEM tires are know to be cheap, as a way to keep the car makers cost down. I wouldn't be suprised if the tire maker cut corners, (and safety, i.e Firestone & Ford) to cut costs...

How many miles were on these tires??? if not a lot, then its seems its a manufacturer defect, which means you should be able to get these replaced under warranty for a minimal cost if not at all.

I hope your right, cause I have had mine way past 90 already. That being said, the aren't many tires more expensive than these Michelins anyways in the stock size.

I've had mine up to 90's over a couple of dozen occasions. Highest I've been is 125. Tires seem fine, altough it's possible your's had a defect. Any tire shop who sell michelins should be able to order the tire for you. For a reference call up tirerack.com or tires.com and see what they say.

Ask your dealer for a replacement tire. My friend has his tire punctured and got it replaced by his Acura dealership for free...well maybe he paid for labour, but that was it.

It's still a G thang!!
