Can rims get stained?

I ask this because I bought an 06 G35 and I looked at the rims and it looked like someone used like spray on cleaner and just didnt rinse it off. So i figured that it would just come off if I cleaned it well. well not so much I cant seem to get it off. Anyone have a suggestion as to how I could get it off?

 

You should never use wheel cleaner on the forged RAYS wheels. They should be washed with soap and water only.

You won't be able to restore the finish. The only way to "repair" it would be to have it refinished professionally, but wheel shops can't match the factory finish exactly.

I'd suggest looking into getting them powdercoated or painted something unique if you decide you're already spending the money to refinish them.

 

Well I have used rim cleaner and still get no where.

Pic isn't loading. What wheels are they? If they're oem wheels, wheel cleaner should actually be fine. It's the wheels with the anodized lip you should be worried about.

 

Different wheel cleaners have different additives... I guess I would modify what I said to only use soap and water unless you absolutely have to use a wheel cleaner to get them clean. If you use a wheel cleaner, research it first.

So you think if I just keep trying different types of wheel clean one should work? If nothing works is there something stronger that I cant try?

 

It looks like the past owner has neglected the wheels badly and they are yellowed from brake dust staining, which probably have etched right into the finish.

 

So that doesnt sound too good. Im guessing that once its etched in there is no getting it out?

 

They did that before I bought my car, the wheels were a disaster. The dealership sent the wheels to get stripped, and repainted.

 

Did it cost you anything? and it may suck for me but it wasnt a infiniti dealer where i bought it

 

I just had the same thing happen to my '07 G35 wheels. Looks like a detailer sprayed something on my wheels and forgot to rinse one of them and stained the clear coated finish. I've tried everything I can think of and nothing cleans the damage or allows them to be polished out. I can't prove who did it as I just noticed it and I'm not sure which car wash/detailer did it as I've used a couple. This says a lot for making sure you always wash and wax your own car. I'm interested in the cost anyone with a similar problem pays to get the wheel stripped and re-painted/clear coated. I guess I could also consider having them chromed. Ugh.

 

you could try a fine cut polish rubbing with a m/f pad. this would at least
lighten the mark and make it less noticeable.

as for the other 07 question. expect to pay at least $125- a wheel

 

I talked to a dealer and they said that a rim guy comes to their shop whenever there is work and he should be able to take it out. But since the rim guy is independent of the dealer he couldnt give me a price.

 

Mine look the same way.. Previous owner/detailer obviously sprayed something on them, there are marks that appear to be where droplets landed.

Even accounting for neglect - the top coat on the 19" forged wheels must not be very substantial if a common cleaner will etch and ruin the finish.
