Time for new Sedan tires

Hey Guys/Gals,
I hate the Bridgestone EL42s on my 2003 Sedan. One of them
is nearly bald and will not pass state inspection. I got the OK
from the wife to buy 4 new tires! What is everyone changing
to? I know I will need to change tire dimensions. Which
dimention causes the least speedo error? Any help is
appreciated. I live in the Houston area where the roads are
wet very often. I plan on keeping the stock 17 inch 6 spoke
wheels.

A lot of us have been going with 235/50/17 on our stockies. Gives the car more contact to the road without affecting the diameter of the wheel tire, less than 1% difference. The Kumho KH11's are the best value in that size. I know both I and Gurgen are running on them and have been more than satisfied. Most importantly they are nearly half the price of all the other tires available in that size.

Thanks for the info. I just ordered a set of 4 from Discount
Tire for $579.70 mounted and balanced. I'm looking forward
to driving on some great rubber. The guy at Discount Tire
said according to his tire calculator, when you are driving
at 60 mph with this dimension on the G35, the speedo will
read 60. So the error is less than 1%.

Re: Time for new Sedan tires

Just bought a set of 4 Kumho ECSTA KH 11s.
Discount Tire installed them today. These tires
are really different! They sport an assymetrical tread
design. V rated. 235/50/R17 The ride seems great.
Discount Tire sold me the "Computer ride match"
super balance. They determine the high point of the
tire and the low point of the wheel. Then remount
the tire on the wheel such that the two point are opposite
eachother when final mounted. Then they do a computer spin
balance. The thought is it results in the smoothest ride
possible with the tires in question. Now I will not be breaking
traction so often with the slip light on. All for $605. Not too bad.

That's a pretty good price... hope you enjoy them as much as I'm starting to. You'll notice the car will respond slightly differently because of the wider tread. It'll take atleast 500 miles before you can get proper use, that's when you'll notice a lot less understeer as well as not being so tail happy through those tight twisties as you throttle out of them.
