19" or 20" Rims

I have 19" rims on my 06 G. Placing an order for new custom rims this week, but I'm not sure if I want to upgrade to a 20" rim. Is there any reason not to go to a 20"?? (performance, ride, or tire wear)

Nineteen or Twentys....?

It depends on what you're looking for, would you enjoy having your G ride
considerably rougher? If you have chuckholes in your area (most of us do)
would you enjoy replacing a rim every 6 months? Or are you just into pretty
rather than functional go with the 20s. Buying either size rim a "Quality tire"
will cost you close to $300 each if not more....your choice. As you might
have guessed I like the 19s better....

Thanks for the feedback Gary. I will definitely keep your points in mind before making my final choice.
I just want to make the right choice before spending a few grand and not being totally satisfied. I'm definitely about the looks, but the ride is definitely important to me.

20's don't make the ride significantly harsher, but there is less tire between the rim and the road which offers less protection against rough roads. But potholes can damage rims of any useful diameter on these cars. I would recommend buying true 3 piece rims so that the face can be unbolted to repair a bent rim if that occurs.

Well, they're going to be 3 piece asanti's that just came out a couple of months ago. I have 2 days to give him a final word on what I want to do and the 19 and 20'' are the same price on these wheels.

Well 20' wheels look sick as heck but it all depends on the route u want to go, looks or performance. keep in mind the 20" wheels have a larger rolling diameter so it will take a little more effort to stop, and also accelerate. 19s re the best choice in my opinion. do a poll

Some wheels are 3 piece, but the face is welded onto the barrel, so you cannot remove it to repair the rim. Other 3 piece wheels have a lot of bolts that can be removed to remove the face and fix the barrel. Make sure you know which kind you get so you aren't surprised if you need to repair the rim but can't.

The diameter of 20s is larger than 19s, so you have to adjust the tire size to keep the outside diameter of the tires close to stock.

255/30/20 and 298/30/20 are very close to the stock tire diameters. For 19s, the aspect ratio of the tires increase to 255/35/19 and 285/35/19.

As for performance, many people believe 18s are a better choice than 19s. There are forged 20s that weigh less than cast 19s.

Do you have 19's or 20's on your G? I'm placing my order tomorrow. As of now, I think 19's are the best choice..

go 20's, not much difference, and you can say you're officially on dubbs

if you get 19's, everyone's gonna be like, why didn't you just go 20s?

It's not the dry weight..it's the rotational inertia that you have to overcome to get the car moving so 20's will STILL be heavier for practical purposes.

+1 (.The farther an object is away from the center the more energy it will use to turn said object, no matter the weight)

I'm placing the order today. Here's what the rim looks like.

not my cup of tea

but as for size, i never felt any difference in the ride when i switched to dubs. I did notice some acceleration though. and 20"s look alot better imo
